Executive Director, Accommodations and Accessibility 

College Board – Risk Management

Location: This is a fully remote role (east coast hours required). Candidates who live near CB offices have the option of being fully remote or hybrid (Tuesday and Wednesday in office).Preference for candidates in the New York City area; the Executive Director is expected to travel to the New York office periodically for meetings.

Type: This is a full-time position.

About the Team

This role oversees two mission-critical functions: Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) and the Accessibility Compliance Office (ACO). These teams are dedicated to accessibility, legal compliance, customer service, and operational excellence.

Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD)

SSD processes approximately 450,000 accommodation requests annually and partners with schools, families, and vendors to ensure students with disabilities receive the support they need to access College Board assessments equitably.

Accessibility Compliance Office (ACO)

ACO ensures that all College Board digital products and offerings are accessible to and usable by individuals with disabilities, including those using assistive technologies. ACO collaborates with teams across the organization to promote inclusive design and compliance with WCAG, ADA, and Section 504 standards.

About the Opportunity 

There are very few roles anywhere that allow one to help more people than the Executive Director, Accommodations and Accessibility. In this role, you will oversee two teams: Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) and the Accessibility Compliance Office (ACO). Through these teams, you will ensure that hundreds of thousands of students with disabilities receive the accommodations they need on College Board tests and that all College Board digital products and offerings are accessible to and usable by individuals with visual, motor, cognitive, and other disabilities. Through your leadership of motivated, efficient, high-performing and collaborative teams you will keep College Board safe and compliant and provide excellent service to students, families, and educators. Because of your and your team's commitment to providing accommodations and accessibility, you will directly fulfill College Board's mission of clearing a path for all students to own their future. 

As a manager at College Board, you’ll be expected to internalize and carry out our Manager Expectations (ME). 

In this role, you will:

Leadership and Management (60%)

  • Define the vision, priorities and structure of the team in alignment with organizational and divisional goals ensuring clarity through managerial layers.


  • Manage a large team through layers ensuring all managers have high expectations for performance while creating an inclusive and supportive culture for all employees to succeed


  • Coach and mentor staff members, providing candid, real-time feedback and providing stretch opportunities that encourage growth.


  • Review and adapt policies, structures, processes, and tools to optimize efficiency, quality, compliance, and service.


  • Identify and obtain the critical data needed to inform and evaluate strategic decisions.


  • Use technology, and specifically AI, to innovate, enhance efficiency, and improve processes.


  • Design the best structure, roles, work-allocation systems, use of vendors and consultants, and practices to build and maintain an efficient, collaborative, and engaged team.


  • Cultivate an inclusive and high achieving culture that enables all team members to live out College Board’s Operating Principles.



Operations and Oversight (30%)

  • Lead the SSD team to timely, wisely, empathically, and efficiently review and respond to hundreds of thousands of requests for accommodations and provide proper decisions in compliance with the ADA and Section 504. 


  • Ensure that College Board’s digital products and services are accessible to all, including people with visual, motor, cognitive, and other disabilities, in compliance with WCAG.


  • Using sensitivity, advocacy, and excellent judgment, resolve, defend, and de-escalate issues and complaints to maintain compliance with federal and state laws, avoid litigation, resolve disputes, and defend College Board’s decisions and reputation.


  • Launch and grow an accessibility consulting initiative to offer the College Board’s accessibility compliance expertise as a paid consulting service to College Board members and other educational institutions.


Stakeholder Engagement and Representation (10%)

  • Chief communicator and ambassador for SSD and ACO functions, engaging with all constituencies (i.e., internal stakeholders, students and parents, SSD coordinators and educators, and schools, districts, and states) to keep them informed, collect feedback, and build trust.


  • Serve as spokesperson, trainer, educator, and advocate to explain SSD’s and ACO’s work/processes and effectively address and resolve articulated needs or concerns, both proactively through regular communications and reports, and reactively when required.
  • Represent the SSD and ACO functions internally with College Board executives and trustees, and externally with schools, state agencies, legal entities, and professional organizations.


About You

You have:

  • 10+ years of experience in a leadership role overseeing operations and/or service delivery at scale.


  • Knowledge of disability law, accessibility standards, psychoeducational assessment, accommodations, compliance, or accessibility programs, especially in the educational space, is not required, but is a significant plus.


  • Proven experience and ability to live out College Board’s Manager Expectations, including but not limited to:


  • You are a strategic and inclusive leader who sets clear priorities, builds effective team structures, and plans for future needs while fostering a culture of belonging


  • You set a high bar for performance, communicate expectations clearly, and provide real-time, evidence-based feedback to drive accountability and results


  • You unlock the potential of staff by coaching for growth, encouraging smart risks, and creating stretch opportunities that accelerate learning and impact


  • Excellent presenting and advocacy skills.


  • Adept problem-solving skills, including using data to inform decisions and actions.


  • Demonstrated ability to plan, budget, and evaluate complex programs.


  • Collaborative leadership skills and the ability to thrive in cross-functional environments under tight deadlines.


  • Technology skills, including the ability to understand, learn, embrace, and use new technologies and specifically AI.


  • Bachelor’s degree required.


  • The ability to travel 4-6 times per year to College Board offices or on behalf of College Board business.

About Our Process

  • The hiring range for this role is $160,000–$235,000.
