Job Description

Inver Hills Community College seeks a three (3) year Fixed Term, Full-Time Counselor to provide academic, career and personal counseling to students.

Examples of Duties Include:

  • Provide academic, career and personal counseling to students.

  • Assist students with financial challenges and food/housing insecurities.

  • Advise undecided, transfer, and veteran/military-connected students.

  • Teach Career Development and/or College Success courses.

  • Provide academic advising during new student orientations.

  • Work collaboratively with Student Services, as well as with instructional faculty and other campus groups, to support the College’s commitment to student success.

  • Participate in professional development.

  • Serve the college community through participation in campus committees.

  • Advocate for students with disabilities (physical, psychological, learning).

  • Provide crisis intervention and referral as needed.

  • Provide mental health and wellness programming to students, faculty and staff.

Academic Years: 2025 - 2026, 2026 - 2027, 2027 - 2028.

Fall 2025 semester starts August 20, 2025.

Salary Range:

$43,067.00 - $94,542.00 Annually (Based upon 1.0 FTE)

* Initial salary placement is determined on the basis of education and experience and in accordance with the 2024 - 2025 MSCF Contract, and conducted by the Minnesota State System Office.

Minimum Qualifications

Education Requirement

  • Master's degree in counseling or counseling psychology.

Preferred Qualification 

  • One year of counseling experience in a community college setting.

  • Experience working with students traditionally underrepresented in higher education.

  • Working knowledge of the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work with others to achieve department and institutional goals.

  • Familiarity with and commitment to the mission and constituencies of a community college.

  • Experience developing and using technology tools in the provision of services to students.

  • Strong counseling skills and an interest in providing holistic counseling to students regarding career, academic and personal concerns.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trust and work collaboratively with others.

Monday - Friday; Times may vary
