HR Business Partner

Company Description

Why Join Us:
At Suterra, we are innovators by nature and for nature.  From our founding in 1984, we have been driven by one goal: to protect the future of the food supply in partnership with sustainable growers.  Driven by Science, we have patented technology designed for all growing conditions, that are applied on more than 1 million acres worldwide in all major specialty crops on 5 continents.

This position is based at our Bend, Oregon headquarters and requires domestic travel.  The HR Business Partner role reports directly to the Head of Human Resources.

We offer a highly collaborative work environment where HR is viewed as a key partner to operational leadership. You’ll have the opportunity to shape workforce practices that drive performance and employee experience.

In addition to a competitive salary, we provide an exceptional benefits package, including:

  • Comprehensive health insurance (with employer-paid coverage options)
  • Generous paid time off and holidays
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Wellness and employee assistance programs
  • Professional development opportunities

Job Description

About the Role:
We are seeking a hands-on HR Business Partner to support our Production and Operations workforce and leadership team, driving operational success through effective workforce planning, employee development, and leadership partnership.

This position will focus on key aspects of Direct Labor support, including workforce planning, supervisor coaching, training and skill development, and labor compliance. The ideal candidate is an experienced HR professional who enjoys partnering with operational leaders to optimize workforce performance and engagement.

This is not a traditional plant-floor HR role — you will also work behind the scenes with leadership to develop and implement programs that enable our manufacturing teams to thrive.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with the Head of Manufacturing on workforce planning, shift sizing, and staffing models
  • Support supervisors and frontline leaders with performance management, employee relations guidance, and leadership development
  • Lead efforts to implement training programs and skills matrices to enhance team capability and cross-training
  • Support the recruitment, onboarding, and retention of both permanent and temporary direct labor employees
  • Monitor and analyze labor cost drivers such as overtime, absenteeism, and turnover, and recommend actions to optimize costs
  • Ensure compliance with applicable wage & hour laws, labor policies, and safety standards in partnership with leadership
  • Serve as a trusted HR advisor to manufacturing leadership, collaborating with the Head of HR to ensure consistent HR practices across the organization

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of HR Generalist or HR Business Partner experience, preferably in manufacturing, operations, or similar environments
  • Proven ability to partner effectively with operational leaders and supervisors
  • Experience developing and managing training and skill development programs for hourly workforces
  • Strong background in employee relations, policy compliance, and performance management
  • Familiarity with workforce planning and labor cost management
  • Strong understanding of wage & hour laws and HR compliance requirements
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with practical execution
