The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

The Assistant Director of Advanced Practice collaborates closely with clinical leadership to support and advance the strategic goals of the department/division. This role is instrumental in developing, implementing, and optimizing Advanced Practice Provider (APP) programs, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and clinical excellence.

Position Overview

The Assistant Director of Advanced Practice Providers - Precepting is responsible for leading initiatives that support the clinical training, mentorship, and integration of APP students and new hires. This role ensures that APP preceptors are well-supported and that precepting programs align with institutional and service-line needs. The Assistant Director collaborates with academic institutions, service-line leaders, and APP managers to build strong clinical education partnerships and expand opportunities for hands-on learning.

This position offers a unique opportunity to enhance the APP pipeline by fostering meaningful educational experiences, ensuring high-quality clinical training, and promoting career readiness. The Assistant Director is instrumental in developing and sustaining a structured, well-resourced precepting program that cultivates excellence in clinical practice and professional development.

Key Responsibilities:

Academic Partnerships & Outreach:

  • Establish and maintain partnerships with academic programs to support clinical placements and educational collaborations.
  • Participate in career fairs and targeted marketing campaigns to enhance recruitment and promote APP opportunities.
  • Develop ongoing education initiatives in collaboration with academic institutions to enhance student learning and engagement.

Preceptor Support & Development:

  • Lead efforts to recruit, train, and support APP preceptors, ensuring a robust precepting infrastructure.
  • Provide resources and educational materials to enhance preceptor effectiveness and engagement.
  • Develop and oversee preceptor recognition programs to celebrate and incentivize excellence in teaching.

Program Coordination & Alignment:

  • Collaborate with APP managers and service-line leaders to align precepting programs with clinical and institutional needs.
  • Ensure that precepting opportunities are structured, equitable, and well-integrated within service-line workflows.
  • Collect and analyze feedback from students, preceptors, and academic partners to drive continuous improvement.

Advocacy & Leadership:

  • Act as an ambassador for APP precepting, advocating for resources and recognition of preceptors.
  • Promote alignment with ICARE values, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Adapt to evolving priorities and institutional needs, taking on new responsibilities to advance the mission of the department and organization.


Clinical Practice
Maintain a clinical practice as an NP or PA in a defined specialty (50% effort).

Qualifications:

Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant required. Demonstrated leadership experience in advanced practice, with a strong record of clinical and professional contributions.

Nurse Practitioner
Require a Master's degree as a Nurse Practitioner, an active New York State Registered Nurse license in good standing, an active New York State Nurse Practitioner licensure in good standing and current national certification as an Nurse Practitioner. 

Physician Assistant
Required completion of an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant program, an active New York State Physician Assistant licensure in good standing and current national certification as a Physician Assistant by NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants)
