Publicity Intern Responsibilities

  • Format and organize press breaks and reviews for all of our titles.
  • Research and collect title-specific news coverage and online reactions, then format them into related documents (e.g. Reaction Memo, Press Breaks, Reviews).
  • During festivals, adapt schedules for breaks, reviews, and reaction memos based on festival screening schedules.
  • Assist the publicity team with administrative documents, including status reports, RSVP documents, screening requests, critic's grids, calendars, agendas, and press request grids.
  • Maintain talent schedules for press days and upcoming events with keen attention to detail.
  • Draft screening reports for specific titles and awards screenings.
  • Create and edit email blasts and social materials using Photoshop and Premiere.
  • Coordinate phone interviews for talent and filmmakers.
  • Provide assistance to the Publicity team, particularly in managing special projects and administrative tasks.
  • Providing support for special events and screenings as necessary
  • Offering general administrative assistance

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 16 - 24 hours per week

NOTE: Schedules vary based on department needs and your availability. We do our best to work around your class schedule.

We offer a competitive hourly rate of $18.00 per hour. School credit is optional, and documentation can be provided if needed. No relocation assistance is available. Our interns are onsite and in person based in either or New York or Los Angeles office.

Eligibility requires enrollment in an accredited college/university with at least one class during your internship semester.

What we’re looking for:

  • To be eligible for this internship, you must be an undergraduate student enrolled in an accredited college/university, taking at least one class in the semester/quarter during your participation in the internship program.
  • Strong interest in film, publicity, and the independent film space
  • Cultural literacy and a curiosity to engage with publicity and marketing campaigns.
  • Familiarity with NEON’s films and a general understanding of how press and buzz are built around a release
  • Solid writing and communication skills — able to draft emails, press materials, or coverage reports clearly and professionally
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented — comfortable tracking press breaks, building media lists, and managing deadlines
  • Proactive and resourceful — not afraid to take initiative, follow up, or dive into research projects
  • Must be proficient with Photoshop and Premiere. You should also be comfortable working with press clippings, Google Docs/Sheets, and tools like Cision or Muck Rack (experience not required, but a plus)
  • Interest in talent relations, red carpets, festivals, and awards campaigns is a bonus
  • Previous internship or experience in PR, communications, journalism, or film is helpful but not required
  • Must be available to work in person 2–3 days per week for the duration of the internship
  • Proactive mindset: willing to contribute ideas, ask questions, and jump in wherever needed
  • Prior marketing, PR, or social media internship experience is a bonus, but not required
