Salary: Speech Language Pathologist Framework (Step 1-25): $71,705- $104,198

HTH seeks a Speech and Language Pathologist, to serve as a member of the Special Education Team.

 

JOB SUMMARY

 

Under the direction of the Director and Associate Director of Special Education, or designee, and the immediate supervision of the Site Director, the Speech and Language Pathologist provides specialized instruction and services for students who have disorders of language and speech which includes hearing, voice, pragmatics/social communication, expressive/receptive language and fluency; performs language assessments; assists in developing the Individualized Educational Program for students with language and speech disorders; consults and collaborates with teachers and parents regarding strategies which enable access to and progress in the general education curriculum.

 

Duties include:


     • Consult with teachers and parents regarding typical speech and language development including hearing, voice and fluency, classroom modifications and/or accommodations, and assist in the referral process if necessary. 

• Provide a systematic, multi-tiered pre-referral consultation and/or intervention. 

• Evaluate, in conjunction with other professionals, as per the California Education Code, the effects of a speech, language or hearing disorder on a student’s educational performance and academic achievement. 

• Evaluates the results of tests in relation to the cultural, environmental, and language backgrounds of students. 

• Participate as a member of the IEP team to develop IEP goals, objectives, adaptations, accommodations, modifications and instructional plans; implement and monitor the IEP. 

• Organize identified students into instructional groups and provide an instructional program designed to address speech and language goals, which can include preschool age students. 

• Conduct on-going evaluation for qualified students and make periodic reports of progress on students IEP’s as well as review and revise student’s intervention program as necessary. 

• Attend SST’s and planning meetings for individual students, providing expertise as needed in the area of speech and language, as well as input on student performance and recommendations for interventions in the area of speech and language. 

• Complete required student assessment plans, initial evaluations, additional assessments and three-year re-evaluations within district, state and federal guidelines and develops legally compliant IEP’s and assessment reports. 

• Maintain appropriate documentation required by law (i.e. assessment reports, IEP’s registers, Medi-Cal billing, therapy/progress notes, data collection on goals, etc.) 

• Write detailed and individualized reports and IEP’s. 

• Attend district and site meetings as requested. 

• Provide in-service training for staff and others as requested. 

• Ability to travel between work locations to provide services, attend meetings and in-service. 

• Perform observations and assessments at off-site locations (or at locations other than traditional school setting). 

• Perform other duties as assigned. 


The ideal candidate would possess the following competencies:

 

Knowledge of: 

Federal and State laws and regulations surrounding the provision of special education services and district policies and procedures; evidence-based principles, methods, techniques, and strategies in speech and language assessment functions; applicable and appropriate speech and language instruments, techniques, and procedures; developmental characteristics of typically developing pre-school and school age students; behavior management strategies and techniques; socio-economic and cultural background differences of the school population; the relationship and differences between clinical and educational speech pathology practices; basic computer and instructional technology skills. 


Ability to: 

Prepare comprehensive, reliable, valid and timely assessment reports; conduct, analyze, and effectively utilize a variety of individual and group interventions applicable to the students with speech and language needs; collaboratively work with site and district personnel, parents, and other outside agencies identifying students areas of need and developing thorough IEP’s; communicate effectively in oral and written form; follow applicable state and federal timelines; understand and carry out oral and written directions with minimal accountability controls; establish and maintain effective organizational, public and community relationships. 

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

 

• Masters Degree required 

• Speech-Language Pathology Services Credential-Language, Speech & Hearing, or Clinical or Rehabilitative Services or equivalent required

• Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) or a Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) desirable

• Possession of a valid California Driver’s License
