PURPOSE

The Harte Research Institute (HRI) at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is seeking a full-time HRI Education Coordinator to support the development and expansion of an educational program focused on coastal and marine science. This position will play a key role in engaging the public, schools, and community groups throughout Texas by delivering educational presentations, hosting outreach events, developing STEM-focused curriculum, and managing a volunteer program.

DESCRIPTION

Functional Area 1: Educational Program Development & Outreach

Percent Effort: 60%

  • Develop an engaging and interactive educational program that promotes HRI research and coastal science topics.

  • Represent HRI at community events by hosting educational booths and activities.

  • Deliver oral presentations at schools, community groups, and public events to communicate HRI’s research and mission.

  • Develop partnerships with schools, museums, nonprofit organizations, and other educational entities to expand outreach efforts.

Functional Area 2: STEM Curriculum Development

Percent Effort: 10%

  • Create science-based educational materials and curriculum aligned with STEM standards, focusing on Gulf research topics.

  • Develop hands-on activities and lesson plans for K-12 and community audiences.

  • Collaborate with HRI researchers to translate scientific findings into engaging educational content.

Functional Area 3: Grant Writing & Program Expansion

Percent Effort: 10%

  • Identify and apply for grants to support and expand the educational program.

  • Work with HRI leadership to secure funding through sponsorships, partnerships, and donor engagement.

  • Track and report program impact to funding agencies and stakeholders.

Functional Area 4: Volunteer Program Development & Management

Percent Effort: 20%

  • Establish and manage a volunteer program to support outreach and educational activities.

  • Recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers for events and community science initiatives.

  • Develop resources and training materials for volunteers to enhance public engagement efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in marine science, environmental science, education, communications, or a related field.

  • Four years of related experience

  • Additional education may be used as a substitute for the minimum experience requirement:

    • Master’s degree and two (2) years of related experience

    • Doctoral Degree

  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others

  • Verbal and written communication skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field

  • Experience in grant writing and securing external funding

  • Knowledge of coastal and marine science topics relevant to the Gulf region.

  • Experience developing and managing a volunteer program.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish

  • Experience in science education, outreach, or public engagement.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage varied audiences.

  • Experience in curriculum development and/or STEM education.

  • Demonstrated experience in event planning and coordination.

  • Ability to travel within Texas for outreach events.

SALARY: Up to $64,994/annually, approximately

  • $5,416.17/monthly
