At the Velocity team, we are dedicated to driving change with speed and precision, striving to revolutionize the way data is consumed and managed. We are currently seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our expanding team of Engineers within the Data Platform and Analytics (Velocity) team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the existing infrastructure is capable of the future growth and stability.

About This Role

What are we looking for:

  • The resource is usually has experience in multiple disciplines including Cloud, Linux as well as Hadoop, spark, yarn, airflow, Dremio.
  • Must be able to lead complex projects and competing priorities with a high level of technical acumen and strong communication skills
  • Experience with multiple large-scale Enterprise Hadoop or Big Data, Data Bricks, Cloudera, HD Insights, or other environments focused on operations, design, capacity planning, cluster setup, security, performance tuning, and monitoring
  • Strong understanding of core Hadoop services such as HDFS, Kafka, Spark, Hive, HBase
  • harnessing your creativity and passion for continuous learning, you'll create a fully digitized end-to-end process for managing the lifecycle of infrastructure resources
  • You'll deploy programmable, easily customizable infrastructure that embraces change and automates the deployment process to reduce risk
  • You'll also analyze all platform level changes, monitor application impact, and provide appropriate technical solutions to resolve all issues quickly and efficiently
  • Actively manages and escalates risk and customer-impacting issues within the day-to-day role to management
  • Achieves product commitments (and influences others to do the same) by using informal leadership & highly developed communication skills and contributes to or led technology communities
  • Uses automation, system tools, open-source solutions, observability and 'security first' principles in daily work
  • Contributes to team agile ceremonies, leads demos and presentations, helps new engineers learn established norms
  • Initiates high level solution design approaches, and guides team to achieve desired key software delivery capabilities using automated, coded enterprise and observability
  • Participates in internal speaking and advocacy events
  • Supports research activities to adopt new technology solutions in ways of developing new capabilities
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the Hadoop platform
  • L3 Support to platform

Job Requirements:

  • Undergraduate Degree or Technical Certificate.
  • Working knowledge of either Java or Python or other scripting languages
  • 4+ years relevant experience. (HDFS/SPARK/YARN/DREMIO/KAFKA)
  • Confidence and ability to oversee and work independently on a variety of complex initiatives end-to-end (primarily on short- to medium- term issues (6-12 months) requiring specialist knowledge and/or the integration of cross-functional processes (within your own area of expertise).
  • Thought leadership and/or industry knowledge specific (but not limited to) your own area of expertise.
  • Willingness and strength in providing guidance and influencing multiple teams across a broad spectrum of initiatives and functional domains.

Depth & Scope:

  • Advanced knowledge of specific domain or range of engineering frameworks, technology, tools, processes and procedures, as well as organization issues
  • Advanced knowledge of TD applications, systems, networks, innovation, design activities, best practices, business / organization, Bank standards
  • Advance experience, knowledge and skills in own discipline
  • Works independently with minimal guidance
  • Acts as a SME resource for colleagues with less experience
  • Solves complex problems; takes a new perspective on existing solutions


Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor or Graduate degree Strong academic background (e.g., computer science, engineering)
  • 5-7 years relevant experience
