Developer I - Retail Development

Holman is a family-owned, global automotive services organization anchored by our deeply rooted core values and principles that have enabled us to continue Driving What’s Right throughout the last century. Our teams deliver the Holman Experience by treating our customers and each other as we would like to be treated, and creating positive, rewarding relationships all around.

The automotive markets Holman serves include fleet management and leasing; vehicle fabrication and upfitting; component manufacturing and productivity solutions; powertrain distribution and logistics services; commercial and personal insurance and risk management; and retail automotive sales as one of the largest privately owned dealership groups in the United States.

Are you a bright, driven developer who thrives in fast-paced environments and loves solving real-world problems with code? Do you get excited about learning new technologies, experimenting with fresh ideas, and building things that matter? If so, we want you on our team!

We're a nimble, agile group with a startup mentality—always moving fast, always iterating, and always looking for creative ways to deliver value. You'll work with Ruby on Rails, React, and other tech stacks to build modern, scalable applications that make a real impact.

If you're passionate about clean code, continuous learning, and collaborating with a team that values innovation, this is the place for you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with project managers and architects to design and develop scalable web applications.
  • Interpret business requirements and technical specifications to deliver high-quality software.
  • Develop full-stack features using Ruby on Rails, React, HTML/CSS/JavaScript, and Bootstrap.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following best practices.
  • Investigate, analyze, and resolve bugs and performance issues.
  • Create and execute unit tests, feature tests, and integration tests
  • Participate in code reviews and champion SDLC best practices
  • Provide accurate estimates for development tasks and projects.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and development trends, especially in the open-source ecosystem.
  • Recommend and implement improvements in tools, technologies, and development processes.

Education and/or Training:

  • BS/BA in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
  • Bootcamp or other Trade Certificate hold equal weight to BA/BS.
  • Certifications in web development or open-source technologies are a plus.

Relevant Work Experience:

  • 1–3 years of hands-on experience with full stack web development. Ruby on Rails, React, JavaScript, HTML/CSS, and Bootstrap are preferred.
  • Strong understanding of PostgreSQL and writing optimized SQL queries.
  • Familiarity with Git/Github for version control
  • Understanding of RESTful APIs, OOP, Functional Programming, and TDD
  • Understanding of Agile methodologies and the full software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Experience with open-source tools and libraries is highly valued.
