Operations Associate, Content Revenue & Rights Management

Teamwork makes the stream work.

Roku is changing how the world watches TV

Roku is the #1 TV streaming platform in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, and we've set our sights on powering every television in the world. Roku pioneered streaming to the TV. Our mission is to be the TV streaming platform that connects the entire TV ecosystem. We connect consumers to the content they love, enable content publishers to build and monetize large audiences, and provide advertisers unique capabilities to engage consumers.

From your first day at Roku, you'll make a valuable - and valued - contribution. We're a fast-growing public company where no one is a bystander. We offer you the opportunity to delight millions of TV streamers around the world while gaining meaningful experience across a variety of disciplines.

About the Team

The Business Operations team drives the vision, alignment and execution of cross-functional workflows, tooling and infrastructure needs for the content pipeline platform-wide, along with maintenance of corresponding documentation. This includes internal tools, external vendors, content and programming deal flow, revenue, rights management, and acquisitions. The core tenets of the team are accuracy, scalability, repeatability, and adaptability.

About The Role

We are seeking an experienced content professional to support rights management for Roku's owned and operated channel, The Roku Channel. The Roku Channel (TRC) is an ad supported and premium subscription video channel available on Roku, mobile, web and other streaming platforms. The Operations Associate, Rights Management will ensure that asset metadata or titles acquired for distribution on TRC is accurately captured and transmitted through internal systems of record on time. Critical title insights include avails windows, territory considerations, and exhibition rights (e.g. number of runs, rights by studio, rights by channel). This individual contributor will help scale content scheduling and optimize title monetization through disciplined data entry and governance.

This resource will influence process and tooling enhancements to drive efficiencies, automation, and accuracy. Key stakeholders that this individual will interact with include team members from Programming Acquisition, Content Distribution, FP&A, Accounting, Legal, Content Operations, and Product Management. This role requires a deep understanding of rights management and the media landscape. This resource must have strong analytical skills and the ability to comprehend complex, multi-territory deals. Prior experience utilizing rights management systems and advanced excel modeling skills is required. This role will report into the Manager of Business & Revenue Operations.

What you’ll be doing

  • Collaborate with Acquisitions and Distribution leads to extract content rights insights from content deals, and ensure accurate data entry of rights, business models and terms in Roku's proprietary systems and tools
  • Validate accuracy and efficiency of data flow into downstream so content is monetized correctly and payments are processed properly
  • Assist in creating the appropriate sets of reports to manage rights availability and validity (e.g. rights restrictions, ad restrictions, marketing restrictions)
  • Complete routine audits to verify contractual rights obligations are being met and that there are no conflicts
  • Partner with key stakeholders in Content Acquisition, Content Distribution, Legal, and Finance to identify and implement continuous improvements in tools, processes, and data
  • Partner with Operations and Product Management to influence system enhancements to scale and automate rights management activities and improve capture of key metadata where possible
  • Serve as the DRI from Business & Revenue Operations in testing and sign-off of product enhancements

We’re excited if you have

  • Minimum 3 years experience in rights management, content operations, content scheduling, or programming acquisitions
  • Expertise in rights management, content tracking, and contract management
  • Expertise in understanding the rights and territories that content is available
  • Experience working with content acquisition or content distribution teams
  • Familiarity with SVOD, AVOD, and Linear business models
  • Comfort and experience as an operator in technical and business tools
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills, with proven ability to multi-task and work within deadlines
  • High degree of drive and self-motivation
  • User experience in Salesforce and reporting intelligence with Salesforce
  • Interest in and comfort level reviewing legal language and business terms
  • Ability to analyze data & relate it to business needs and data inputs
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Eagerness to be hands-on with a variety of stakeholders at all levels of the organization
  • Bonus if you have experience working with major studios or production companies and understand the fast-paced, dynamic nature of studio content distribution
  • Located in TBD
  • BA/BS preferred

The Roku Culture

Roku is a great place for people who want to work in a fast-paced environment where everyone is focused on the company's success rather than their own. We try to surround ourselves with people who are great at their jobs, who are easy to work with, and who keep their egos in check. We appreciate a sense of humor. We believe a fewer number of very talented folks can do more for less cost than a larger number of less talented teams. We're independent thinkers with big ideas who act boldly, move fast and accomplish extraordinary things through collaboration and trust. In short, at Roku you'll be part of a company that's changing how the world watches TV.

We have a unique culture that we are proud of. We think of ourselves primarily as problem-solvers, which itself is a two-part idea. We come up with the solution, but the solution isn't real until it is built and delivered to the customer. That penchant for action gives us a pragmatic approach to innovation, one that has served us well since 2002.
