Position Summary

We are seeking a Public Affairs Official to join our team. In this role, the Public Affairs Official is required have extensive Public Affairs experience  supporting a government contract with the Defense Security and Cooperation Agency (DSCA) standing up for the new Irregular Warfare Center (IWC). A marketing specialist who uses social media platforms promotes the IWC via platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and traditional media to reach new customers, engage with current ones, and announce new products or services. 

The IWC intends to build strong bilateral and multilateral relationships between the United States and partners, including academia and industry from around the world, focusing on Irregular Warfare (IW) threats and mitigation strategies. The Center will meet the knowledge needs of U.S. and international national security professionals by providing a forum for rigorous examination of the challenges that shape the security environment. The IWC will provide a focal point where decision-makers can gather to exchange ideas and explore tools for cooperative problem-solving. The IWC will seek out and promote allied and partner nation IW best practices through its global network of subject matter experts and practitioners. Additionally, the IWC will serve as a center of excellence on IW curriculum development across the DoD for domestic and international audiences. 

  • Provide annual updates to the IWC’s strategic communications plan for the US government and external audiences. 
  • Provide all print and electronic promotional and informational material for the Center, including, but not limited to, news releases; newsletters, reports, and other publications; IWC Web sites, social media platforms; public and alumni; to include assistant with distance learning objectives. 
  • Provide still photo and video support for IWC events in support of the production of materials.  
  • Production of IWC podcasts including drafting, coordination, staffing and execution of final product. 
  • Provide social media posts to enhance awareness of IWC upcoming and ongoing events to increase the IWC’s global network and awareness. 
  • Support the drafting of talking points, weekly activity reports and other key communications for the Director and Chief of Staff. 
  • Conduct media-related research and recommend various means to expand IWC awareness. 
  • Be prepared for additional duties that may be assigned, as required within the context of these duties to support requirements in the headquarters. Other academic activities include distance learning support or while traveling for programs and events.  

Requirements

  • Must have a minimum of Seven (7) years’ experience working as a media and communications specialist with expertise in social media posting at a news media, think tank, regional center, university, USG agency, or advertisement agency. 
  • Must have a minimum of Seven (7) years of experience in media, communications, printing, graphic development, Drupal Software, publication, and social media usage. 
  • Functional understanding of the policy process and Washington, D.C. diplomatic and military organizations and cultures, and the ability to interact with senior foreign representatives. 

Preferred Experience: 

  • Ten (10) years’ experience in media and communications. 
  • U.S. Government media and communications experience. 
  • Active Secret Security Clearance.  

 Education & Eligibility

  • Bachelor’s degree in media, journalism, and/or communications or a related discipline. 
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen, Permanent Resident, or Dual Citizen
  • Must be able to obtain Secret Security clearance. 

Work Location

  • This is a remote position with occasional travel required.
  • Must be able to travel and work occasionally in the evenings and weekends. 
  • Must reside within 50 miles of the National Capital Region.

Compensation & Benefits Compensation varies based on factors such as location, experience, and skill set. For positions based in California, Colorado, D.C., Maryland, New York, or Washington, the salary range is $80,000 – $110,000 (if annualized). Our comprehensive benefits package includes health insurance (medical, dental, vision), voluntary short and long-term disability, voluntary additional life, Sect. 125 dependent care, 401(k) retirement plan with company match, paid time off (PTO), and professional development opportunities.
