Sr. Manager, Group Product Management

Be part of an amazing story.

Macy’s is more than just a store. We’re a story. One that’s captured the hearts and minds of America for more than 160 years. A story about innovations and traditions…about inspiring stores and irresistible products…about the excitement of the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks, and the wonder of the Thanksgiving Day Parade. We’ve been part of memorable moments and milestones for countless customers and colleagues. Those stories are part of what makes this such a special place to work.

Job Overview

The Senior Manager, Group Product Management supports the fast-moving e-commerce team by driving the development of customer-centric user experiences and features that expand the customer base, increase user engagement, and enhance the overall site experience. This senior product leader shapes and executes both short- and long-term strategy and vision for their product area, balancing strategic leadership with hands-on execution.

What You Will Do

  • Define and execute both short- and long-term strategies and vision for a product area.
  • Lead enterprise or complex initiatives, often managing large pods with multiple interdependencies.
  • Collaborate with pods, partners, and stakeholders to drive complex cross-functional projects with layered dependencies.
  • Engage executive audiences through presentations and discussions, fostering productive, meaningful dialogue.
  • Drive end-to-end discovery using diverse techniques to develop a multi-year product roadmap.
  • Build trust and inspire followership by aligning colleagues around shared goals.
  • Partner closely with engineering to optimize development cycles and translate technical requirements.
  • Collaborate with the analytics team as a strategic thought partner.
  • Structure experiments and expertly interpret test results.
  • Maintain a prioritized backlog of well-groomed, insight-driven user stories.
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback and guidance to team members and cross-functional partners, challenging when necessary.
  • Keep leaders informed of progress, obstacles, and potential solutions.
  • Mentor junior colleagues, supporting their growth across a range of product management skills.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.
  • In addition to the essential duties mentioned above, other duties may be assigned.

Skills You Will Need

Strategic Thinking: Ability to define and execute both short and long-term strategies and visions for a product area, aligning with overarching business goals and market trends.

Leadership: Capability to assume responsibility for enterprise or complex initiatives, leading larger pods with multi-pod dependencies, while building successful followership and trust among colleagues.

Collaboration: Strong collaboration skills to work with pods, partners, and stakeholders, leading complex cross-functional projects with multiple layers of dependencies, fostering meaningful dialogue and alignment.

Communication: Excellent communicator who can engage executive audiences through presentations and discussions, influencing decisions and driving outcomes at multiple levels.

Customer Focus: Customer-centric mindset with a deep interest in both retail commerce and user experience, distinguishing between store and ecommerce business drivers, to create memorable, loyalty-building experiences.

Problem-Solving: Naturally curious with a strong desire to understand root causes and solve problems, using critical thinking skills and data analytics to inform decision-making.

Continuous Improvement: Eager to learn about industry trends, emerging technologies, and new methodologies, operating in a continuous improvement manner to drive innovation and excellence.

Organizational Skills: Strong attention-to-detail, effective time management, and organizational skills to maintain a strong backlog of groomed, insight-driven user stories and keep leaders updated on progress and potential solutions.

Results-Driven: Self-motivated and results-driven individual who thrives in a high-energy, fast-paced, collaborative, outcome-oriented environment, energized by challenges and always seeking ways to improve.

Who You Are

  • Candidates with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply.
  • 9+ years of experience with at least 5 years specific product management experience, preferably within an agile framework; experience operating in a retail environment is a plus.
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
