Principal Scientist/Investigator

GSK is currently looking for a Principal Scientist/Investigator to join our MSAT Biologics Process Science team in Rockville, MD. In this role you’ll be involved in all aspects of the development of cell culture processes for the manufacture of biopharmaceuticals including initial process screening, optimization and characterization, validation, scale-up and tech transfer to internal or external manufacturing partners

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • AMBR 250 subject matter expert
  • Perform bench/pilot-scale laboratory experiments to develop, characterize and /or validate cell culture processes for production of biopharmaceuticals 
  • Compile, analyze and communicate experimental results; identify and troubleshoot problems 
  • Describe experimental results in the form of written reports and presentations 
  • Work seamlessly within a team 
  • Laboratory duties as required  
  • Independently design experiments in the scope of the project plan 
  • Represent the team in cross functional meetings 
  • Team/Project leader as required: able to plan and manage projects 
  • Provide SME support for manufacturing 

Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • BS/BA degree with 7+ years biopharmaceutical industry experience OR MS degree with 5+ years biopharmaceutical industry experience OR PhD with 2+ years of biopharmaceutical industry experience
  • Cell culture development and process scaling experience in AMBR

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Experience in tuning product quality through cell culture
  • Good understanding of manufacturing processes for biopharmaceuticals, scale-up requirements and technology transfer to manufacturing sites. 
  • Knowledge of statistical process design/characterization and process validation.

The annual base salary for new hires in this position ranges from $108,900 to $181,500 taking into account a number of factors including work location within the US market, the candidate’s skills, experience, education level and the market rate for the role. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program which is dependent on the level of the role. Available benefits include health care and other insurance benefits (for employee and family), retirement benefits, paid holidays, vacation, and paid caregiver/parental and medical leave.
