The Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science includes 13 full-time faculty members and a core of committed adjunct faculty members. The department is located in Augsburg's newest building -- the Hagfors Center for Science, Business, and Religion which opened in 2018. Classes throughout the department incorporate active learning and student activities or projects. Faculty get to know students well with normally no more than 28 students per class. Students from majors across campus take introductory mathematics and statistics courses as part of their major or to fulfill the university's general education requirements. Our developmental curriculum supports students in preparing for college level courses. Our introductory and developmental courses are designed to engage a diverse student audience through meaningful examples and applications, make use of modern technology, and provide ample support for student success.
General Statement of Duties: The Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science at Augsburg University invites applications for adjunct faculty positions to teach introductory courses in mathematics.
Teach one or two sections of introductory courses in mathematics such as Finite Mathematics (for Business students), Mathematics in Society, Mathematics for Elementary Teachers, Discrete Mathematics, Precalculus, and Developmental Mathematics. Available courses vary by term. Most classes are held during the day, 2-3 days per week. Some classes meet once or twice a week in the evenings. In addition to teaching the class and grading student work, instructors are expected to respond to student questions through email, hold regularly scheduled office hours, reach out to students with course progress information, and communicate regularly with the course coordinator. A course syllabus with calendar, textbook and homework selection, sample activities and exams, and shared office space are typically provided. Most classes are taught in-person on our Minneapolis campus. Each fall or spring semester course requires approximately 12-15 hours/week for 15-16 weeks.
