Workday is looking for a highly motivated, strategic, and results-oriented Senior Technical Accounting Manager to join a collaborative and growing team. The ideal candidate is a self-starter and an excellent communicator who is not only diligent, but also demonstrates initiative and ownership in driving the accounting of significant and unique transactions while shaping our accounting policies. This role is for an individual who thrives with independently determining methods and procedures to resolve highly sophisticated and often ambiguous accounting challenges, while collaborating with diverse teams.
Responsibilities:
Lead technical accounting research for highly complex, significant, and/or unique transactions; independently formulating well-reasoned accounting positions and proposed methods, then effectively communicating and providing clear guidance for execution.
Serve as principal accounting partner, leading strategic collaboration with cross functional teams from inception of new initiatives to proactively identify and communicate accounting and budget impacts, strategically influencing deal structures and operational execution.
Perform and document quarterly/annual controls.
Own the end-to-end evaluation, adoption, and effective process of new accounting pronouncements across the broader finance organization; independently new standards to define Workday's approach, then driving cross-functional collaboration and alignment to develop robust procedures for flawless and effective implementation.
Proactively work with external auditors to drive timely closure of technical accounting matters.
Establish, maintain and proactively partner with stakeholders across the organization on critical accounting policies and procedures, encouraging technical excellence, proactive problem-solving and acting as a knowledge leader.
Support SOX compliance efforts and assist in improvement of control procedures.
Collaborate with internal teams and external auditors to ensure successful audit results and compliance.
Support month-end close processes.
Perform various ad hoc projects as requested.
About You
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance.
Minimum 8 years+ of accounting experience (must include minimum of 6 years within public accounting).
CPA required.
Other Qualifications:
Software and/or SaaS industry experience preferred.
Experience using large ERP system preferred (Workday Financials is a plus).
Proficiency with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office.
Proven experience in a rapidly growing and dynamic environment to meet tight timelines while ensuring high-quality deliverables; adept at navigating ambiguity and developing pragmatic, compliant solutions for novel and unstructured accounting scenarios.
High attention to details and accuracy, excellent organizational skills and the ability to multitask.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to tailor communication of technical concepts and implications to diverse audiences, including senior leadership.
Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to anticipating future issues and delivering strategic insights.
Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical accounting into actionable business insights and recommendations.

The annualized base salary ranges for the primary location and any additional locations are listed below. Workday pay ranges vary based on work location. As a part of the total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the Workday Bonus Plan or a role-specific commission/bonus, as well as annual refresh stock grants.
