Content Area or Department Brief Description:

PITC promotes responsive, caring relationships for infants and toddlers and employs research-based training materials and strategies to support the early care and education field.

Position Overview:

WestEd is seeking an experienced leader with a demonstrated commitment to promoting the well-being of infants, toddlers, and families by contributing to the professional development of the infant/toddler field. A strong candidate will have deep content knowledge in infant/toddler development and care, expertise in infant/toddler program implementation, and an understanding of early childhood quality improvement efforts at the local, state, and national levels.

Serving as a core member of the PITC Regional Support Network (PITC RSN), in the content area of Infant and Toddler Care, the Region III Regional Coordinator will be responsible for the following key areas of work:

  • Regional team leadership and supervision
  • Contributing to statewide communication, outreach, marketing and resource development
  • Contributing to statewide professional development activities

Region III Team Leadership and Supervision:

  • Oversee service delivery in the region by:
  1. Ensuring equitable distribution of PITC RSN funds and resources throughout the assigned counties.
  2. Delivering PITC services (training and technical assistance) to center-based programs, family childcare programs and family, friend and neighbor providers.
  3. Monitoring the quality of PITC RSN services in the region.
  4. Documenting and analyzing service delivery activities and submitting reports as required.
  •  Supervise and mentor I/T Specialists (I/TS) in the region through:
  1. Observing I/TS twice annually and providing constructive feedback to I/TS.
  2. Reviewing evaluations of services delivered and providing constructive feedback to I/TS.
  3. Facilitating regional meetings, and regular monthly check-ins with active I/TS 
  4. Supporting the professional development of each I/TS.

Contribute to statewide communication, outreach, marketing and resource development

Contribute to the continuous improvement of the PITC RSN service delivery model that provides early care and education programs with the tools they need to implement the PITC philosophy and essential practices into daily practice.

  • Engage in ongoing communication with the PITC RSN team about the delivery of services in the regions and statewide including established priorities, timelines, staffing, and resource development.
  • Stay informed of local/regional and statewide training and technical assistance needs and trends so that the PITC RSN is positioned in a way that appeals to a broad and diverse audience.
  • Lead regional outreach efforts that include the needs of Family Child Care, Family Friend and Neighbor providers and Center-based providers.
  • Coordinate training and technical assistance efforts with Quality Counts California and with other California Department of Social Services Quality Improvement projects such as the California Preschool Instructional Network (CPIN), Resource and Referral Programs, and county First Five Commissions in the regions
  • Recruit participants for the PITC Trainer Institute.
  • Present at conferences and staff the PITC exhibit as requested. Conferences may include local or county-wide conferences in the regions, Zero-to-Three, NAEYC, CAAEYC or Early Head Start.
  • Actively attend and contribute to regional, area and statewide meetings with key stakeholders.
  • Utilize your content expertise in the development of proposals to expand this important work across California.
  • Work closely with PITC RSN Managers to manage Fee-For-Service requests in the regions.

 Contribute to and engage in PITC RSN statewide professional development  activities by:

  • Developing and conducting sessions at the annual PITC RSN Advanced Training and/or other statewide professional development meetings and events.
  • Participating in professional development activities to maintain a high level of expertise and current knowledge of infant/toddler care and development.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Advanced degree in child development, early childhood education, or a related field plus experience in infant/toddler program implementation.
  • Full certification in the Program for Infant/Toddler Care (PITC) required.
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish or English/Chinese preferred.
  • Strongly preferred that applicant resides in one of the Region III counties: Alpine, Amador, Colusa, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, Sierra, Sutter, Yolo, or Yuba
  • Knowledge of California early care and education policies, research, and trends including California's Quality Improvement System (QIS).
  • Minimum three years’ experience providing training, mentoring and coaching to early childhood programs.
  • Excellent written and oral (including public speaking) communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills, including experience managing remote staff.
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks and priorities; flexibility in adapting to changing scopes of work and funding structures.
  • High level of self-awareness and commitment to one’s own professional growth and continuous learning.
  • Ability to work well both independently and under direction.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing policies that foster equity.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft WORD, PowerPoint, and EXCEL, and project management software (SmartSheet) and electronic filing systems (BOX).
  • Ability to regularly travel throughout the region as well as periodic non-local travel to statewide meetings and conferences required.

WestEd conducts a criminal background check and education verification for all new hires. Any offers of employment will be contingent on receiving a clear background check in accordance with applicable law.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

The full salary range for this position, WestEd level 9, is $79,600 to $124,400, but WestEd does not typically hire at or near the top of the salary range. The typical hiring range for this role is $79,600 to $99,500. The actual offer considers multiple factors, including but not limited to education, experience, internal equity, and other organizational needs. 

In addition to the base salary, benefits include:

· 15% contribution toward retirement effective day 1 of employment
· Pre-tax Flexible Spending Accounts
· All health/welfare benefits are effective the first of the month following the hire date
· PTO: 3 weeks’ vacation (increases to 4 weeks beginning the 4th year of employment), paid holidays, and 12 days paid sick leave per year
· Life Insurance: value of 3x gross salary
