SOUND is one of King County’s most comprehensive providers of quality mental health and addiction treatment services, supporting our area’s most vulnerable populations. A central tenet of our work is Reaching Recovery, an evidence-based clinical care model.

 

The project manager and lean improvement specialist will establish and lead the implementation and stabilization of projects across the organization. Additionally, this individual will draw upon their lean background and prior process improvement experiences to optimize agency processes and support the agency’s transition to lean. This team member will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer and work closely with the Executive and Management Teams.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

Project Management

  • Work with the Leadership Team to establish projects that support the growth of Sound Behavioral Health's business.
  • Establish project plans, tasks, resources, and ownership to ensure project milestones and budgets are met.
  • Manage internal and external projects, which may extend to vendors and partners.
  • Coordinate all resources, internal and external, for the planning and execution of projects.
  • Proactively work to remove project obstacles, identify and manage issue escalations, and provide support to teams balancing competing priorities.
  • Actively drive the enhancement of project management processes and develop templates and tools to improve the project management function.
  • Provide timely status reports and program summaries, including scope/schedule/quality risks, project status, resource allocation, and identify any potential impact to parties outside of the scope of the project.
  • Manage and maintain regular communications with the agency regarding achievements, accomplishments, and changes. This will be done directly or in cooperation with the communications team.
  • Identify and manage costs associated with project budgets, to include, but not limited to, assisting with any associated bid process.
  • Assures that service delivery and quality are not impacted by project execution.
  • Track and report on the efficacy of continuous improvement efforts; collaborate with finance to measure the impact of projects.

Lean Process Improvement

  • Partner with the Continuous Improvement Leader to drive improvement projects.
  • Interface with the NPI (new program implementation) team to establish project plans that will ensure a smooth introduction of services into the organization.
  • Create and document new processes as required.
  • Partner with the service delivery team to transition delivery processes to Lean. Apply appropriate tools (Lean, Six Sigma) to complex business processes and implement solutions that provide positive performance and financial gains.

Supplemental Functions

  • Maintains the agency contract development visual system and contract file storage system as related to project deployment.
  • Collaborates with the Quality Department to ensure documentation of standard work related to new process development and process improvement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Serves as a teacher, mentor, and coach for ongoing operational improvement activities.

KEY WORK RELATIONSHIPS

  • Establishes and maintains positive, ethical, and professional working relationships with department teams, Sound team members, clients, vendors, and other professionals.
  • Relate to others in a professional manner, respectful of individual and cultural differences.
  • Must be comfortable working with physicians, clinical staff, administrators, and team members in a behavioral health clinical environment.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree required; BA/BS in Healthcare field, Business, or healthcare administration, industrial engineering, or related field preferred.
  • PMP certification strongly preferred.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent required, black belt preferred.
  • 3+ years' experience directly managing projects required.  
  • 3+ years' experience in a health care, social service, or other non-profit organization preferred. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • The successful candidate will be persuasive, have exceptional communication skills, be strong in project planning, have a driving desire to get things done, and enjoy interactions with individuals throughout our organization. Success in this role will require the ability to build strong working relationships with management in all areas of the organization.
  • Successful prior implementation of Lean.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Lean, 5S, Continuous Improvement, Kaizen, Value Stream, and Process Mapping.
  • Competent in the use of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Webex, Visio, and Teams.
  • Must have a valid driver's license in good standing and reliable transportation.
  • Like all Sound team members, this person must have a passion for teamwork, learning, and improvement while building new skills and knowledge.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and personal interaction skills, with an emphasis on customer service and support.
  • Excellent analytical, time management, and organizational skills; detail-oriented.
  • Ability to effectively present information, train on concepts, and respond to questions from managers.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong professional relationships with team members at all levels, and with varying educational and professional backgrounds.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, manage multiple duties and priorities, and maintain high standards for accuracy, productivity, and confidentiality.
  • Must successfully pass criminal background checks.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

To successfully perform the essential duties of this position, an individual must be able to sit at a desk for four or more hours a day and use office equipment, including phones and computer keyboards, for four or more hours per day. Individuals must be able to engage team members and others over the phone and in person / by voice.  Regular attendance is an essential function of the position. Compensation: $89,440.00 - $130,000 per year.
