PCIe Expert – ASIC/Firmware Architect for Next-Gen SSD Development

We are looking for a PCIe expert with a strong background in ASIC and Firmware development to help define, architect, and deliver the next generation of solid-state drive (SSD) products. In this high-impact role, you will drive the design of advanced SSD subsystems, write detailed specifications, and lead debug efforts on PCIe-related issues using trace analysis. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams to optimize technical tradeoffs and accelerate time to market.

This role requires both hands-on technical depth and strategic system-level thinking. You will also play a key role in guiding architecture decisions and mentoring a small, focused engineering team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Architect and define PCIe/NVMe-based SSD systems in collaboration with ASIC, FW, and HW teams
• Write detailed specifications and technical documentation for subsystem components
• Lead efforts to debug PCIe issues using traces, protocol analyzers, and lab equipment
• Evaluate and guide design tradeoffs across performance, power, cost, and schedule
• Collaborate with firmware and ASIC engineers to ensure system integration and compatibility
• Drive end-to-end product development from concept through mass production
• Analyze and implement next-gen PCIe features into product architecture
• Build and mentor a small team of engineers focused on PCIe subsystem innovation

• Deep expertise in PCIe protocols and architecture (Gen4/Gen5/Gen6)
• Strong experience with ASIC and/or firmware development
• Ability to analyze and debug PCIe protocol traces using tools like protocol analyzers and oscilloscopes
• Experience writing and reviewing low-level firmware in C/C++ and/or Python
• Solid understanding of SoC design and processor architectures (e.g., ARM, ARC)
• Familiarity with NVMe, DDR, and power management subsystems
• Proven experience in specification writing and system-level design
• Ability to work independently, take ownership, and lead technical direction

• An employee’s pay position within the salary range may be based on several factors including but not limited to (1) relevant education; qualifications; certifications; and experience; (2) skills, ability, knowledge of the job; (3) performance, contribution and results; (4) geographic location; (5) shift; (6) internal and external equity; and (7) business and organizational needs.
• The salary range is what we believe to be the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting.  We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California, Colorado, New York or remote jobs that can be performed in California, Colorado and New York.  This range may be modified in the future.
• You will be eligible to participate in Sandisk's Short-Term Incentive (STI) Plan, which provides incentive awards based on Company and individual performance.  Depending on your role and your performance, you may be eligible to participate in our annual Long-Term Incentive (LTI) program, which consists of restricted stock units (RSUs) or cash equivalents, pursuant to the terms of the LTI plan.
