Job Description

RESPEC is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to join our engineering team in Alaska (Anchorage, Juneau, Palmer, or Fairbanks). The structural engineers at RESPEC collaborate across multiple offices. We design a wide range of innovative projects utilizing state-of-the-art technologies. Projects include schools, healthcare facilities, seismic evaluations, industrial facilities and structures, structural failure condition assessments, and projects for the Department of Defense.

The Structural Engineer will be a part of our growing Alaskan Structural team. The engineer’s structural analysis and design experience will support new construction and rehabilitations/renovations in collaboration with architects and civil, mechanical, electrical, and fire protection engineers. Interpreting building codes and standards, preparing structural plans and details, and conducting related construction observations for RESPEC’s structural projects—while applying technical knowledge to meet all stakeholder expectations—are key aspects of this position. Our ideal candidate enjoys working with a team and diving into new challenges!  Our Structural Engineers will work with fellow employee-owners in Alaska and across the company to complete the following tasks:

  • Lead structural projects as a Structural Project Engineer.
  • Observe structural construction on site.
  • Interpret drawings from architects or other engineering disciplines.
  • Participate in design progress meetings.
  • Analyze structures using computer analysis programs.
  • Prepare structural design calculations and related project documentation.
  • Perform structural detailing and editing for the preparation of construction drawings.
  • Perform quality control reviews of designs and project structural drawings.
  • Prepare project communications.
  • Assist with preparation of structural project proposals.
  • Prepare structural technical sections of specifications.
  • Review structural shop drawings and other structural submittals.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering with structural coursework emphasis.
  • Professional Engineering registration.
  • Minimum 5 to 8 years of experience in structural engineering
  • Solid knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Teams, and Mathcad.
  • RISA, STAAD, SAP, Enercalc, or similar Structural Analysis Software experience.
  • Experience with preparing plans, specifications, and design calculations.
  • Self-motivated, energetic, and able to take on new tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team.
  • Detail oriented and well organized with demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Desire to learn and advance in technical skills and understanding.

Additional Preferred Experience/Skills:

  • Master of Science in Civil Engineering with structural emphasis.
  • AutoCAD and Revit experience.
  • Project Management experience and/or Project Management Professional Certification.
  • Experience with review of structural construction.
  • Interest in continued professional development.
  • SE registration a plus.
