Netflix is one of the world's leading entertainment services, with over 300 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, films and games across a wide variety of genres and languages. Members can play, pause and resume watching as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, and can change their plans at any time.
The Role
Do you have extensive experience creating compelling editorial while covering live events such as the Oscars or the Super Bowl? Are you that rare person who is equally happy watching the NFL or F1 Academy as you are Selling Sunset? Have you seen every episode of every season of Love Is Blind? And when the season is over do you follow your favorite singles on social media? Netflix’s Publishing organization is looking for an Editorial Specialist to support its growing Live, Unscripted, and Sports team — someone who can bring both sharp editorial instincts and a deep understanding of what drives fan engagement across real-time, event-based, and unscripted formats.
Reporting to an Editorial Manager, the Editorial Specialist will execute and help shape editorial strategy around Netflix’s burgeoning slate of live events. (Think: Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul, NFL Christmas games, FIFA Women’s World Cup soccer, Pop the Balloon and more.) You’ll need to be a super quick and nimble content creator who produces sparkling copy — and who brings strong editorial judgment, clear communication, and ownership to fast-moving campaigns. As part of this role, you’ll also be responsible for supporting the Publishing org’s coverage of Unscripted series such as Temptation Island, Ultimatum: Queer Love and Love on the Spectrum. You’ll conduct interviews, pitch ideas and create bold, impactful content ranging from Everything You Need to Know primers, Cast Guides and Status Updates. This is a highly collaborative position and requires excellent communication, organization and judgment.
Based in Los Angeles, this position requires three days a week of work in the office.
Responsibilities
Title Research: Comprehensively review Netflix internal materials — scripts, production schedules — to gain context and background that will inform your interviews and reporting.
Idea Generation: Actively participate in title brainstorm sessions by pitching innovative, creative and industry-leading ideas.
Strong Talent Relations: You thoroughly prep for interviews and can make anyone feel at ease by steering thoughtful, fun and comfortable conversations that generate the type of killer anecdotes that elevate our coverage.
Content Creation: Compile and edit interviews and write stories with the aim of creating conversation by engaging and informing readers. You’ll also repackage and rewrite articles, as needed, depending on the intended audience (awards voters vs fans, for example). Contribute to content plans and work with the curation team on finding assets for news beats. Work closely with the Editorial Manager and cross-functional partners across marketing, comms and social to ensure editorial coverage supports broader campaign goals.
Getting to Know Fans: Fans are obsessed with our titles and you’re obsessed with them. You balance fan instincts with editorial rigor, using consumer insights and cultural trends to inform content that’s both resonant and smart.
Monitor Content Performance: After publication of your articles, work with SEO and Growth and Insights teams to optimize content, be it tweaking SEO copy or adding subheads to articles to capitalize on fan interest.
