Engineering Manager

MOO set out to shake up the world of print back in 2006. And we’ve come a long way since. Today we’re a 400 + strong team (we’re thinking of getting matching jackets) who create print and digital products for companies of all sizes – from Google and AirBnB to the guy who makes those amazing prints you found at a craft fair.

Our global HQ is in London, UK, while we also have premises in Dagenham. In the US, you’ll find us in Boston, MA, as well as East Providence, RI and Denver, CO.

We’re making new and exciting things – and we could really do with your help.

As we expand our product range, we’re seeking an experienced and collaborative Engineering Manager (operations & manufacturing) to lead our operational engineering efforts. This role bridges the digital and physical worlds—spanning software systems and operational processes—to drive the development, optimisation, and launch of new physical products within our operations team.

You’ll play a key role in evolving our platform, overseeing the transition from our classic systems to a modern architecture. You’ll lead the engineering work behind our in-house manufacturing and shipping operations, ensuring systems are scalable, reliable, and aligned with business goals. This is a hands-on leadership role that blends people development, technical delivery, and operational excellence.

You’re a people-focused leader with a background in software engineering and a passion for fostering inclusive teams where everyone feels supported and valued. You bring strong communication and collaboration skills, lead with empathy, and excel at aligning long-term technical strategy with business outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • People & Team Leadership: Lead and support a high-performing engineering team, including coaching, mentoring, and technical direction
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development
  • Build and maintain an inclusive, supportive team environment through empathy and active listening
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and offer actionable, constructive feedback
  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration across departments

  • Delivery & Project Management: Oversee planning, execution, and delivery of technical projects to meet agreed timelines and quality benchmarks
  • Maintain a steady delivery pace by proactively removing blockers
  • Provide transparent stakeholder communication, including regular updates and progress tracking
  • Identify potential risks and implement mitigation strategies early
  • Collaborate effectively within Product Trios to deliver meaningful business value

  • Technical & Operational Excellence: Provide hands-on technical leadership and ensure adoption of engineering best practices
  • Drive system reliability, scalability, and performance across all operational applications
  • Develop strategies to manage technical debt without compromising delivery
  • Ensure all engineering initiatives align with the wider business strategy and goals

About You
  • Excellent communication, team leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Proven experience leading engineering teams in a delivery-focused environment
  • Collaborative experience working with Product and UX teams and strong alignment with Agile principles
  • Experience working with diverse stakeholders across functions
  • A strong interest in operational domains—such as manufacturing, shipping, fulfilment, or supply chain
  • Strong facilitation and cross-functional collaboration skills

Nice To Haves
  • Experience with Java (v17 or v21), and infrastructure as code tools like Terraform
  • Exposure to Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) such as Tulip
  • A background in eCommerce, manufacturing, or logistics technology
  • Understanding of platform transitions and legacy system migrations

That’s why we offer 25 days holiday rising by one day for each year here (for 5 years), a matched pension scheme, MOO’s share option scheme, and paid parental leave. We’ll offer you private healthcare, life insurance, a season ticket loan, and a cycle to work scheme. We also offer flexible work schedules with hybrid and remote working for certain roles as well as a Work From Anywhere program.
