Overview

Are you looking to make an impact? We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to support the VA. In this position, you will be working in a small, cross-functional team of Human-Centered Design practitioners to understand and synthesize customer needs, strategize improved service delivery, and design innovative solutions built on SaaS and PaaS products for the VA: Health and Benefits mobile app. If you have experience driving the product life cycle from proof of concept to product road mapping and execution and you've helped bridge gaps between customers and interdisciplinary teams, we’d love to hear from you.


This role anticipates approximately 10% travel


What You'll Do
  • Build, iterate, & scale a Ruby on Rails backend service that powers our mobile applications
  • Own and evolve our CI/CD pipelines across backend and mobile platforms
  • Be a technical resource for other teams utilizing our mobile platformKeep our docs up-to-date and useful—from platform features to API specs to deployment processes
  • Step into react-native and react engineering requirements when necessary
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve development workflows and processes
  • Monitor and optimize system performance and reliability
  • Participate in code reviews and architectural discussions


What We're Looking For
  • 5+ years of experience in an agile software development environment, with strong proficiency in Ruby on Rails; experience with React Native/React is a plus
  • Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for a backend system and/or mobile applications serving a large user base
  • Experience with API design patterns and versioning
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and container orchestration tools like Kubernetes
  • Familiarity supporting and mentoring other teams in CI/CD best practices
  • Track record of successfully deprecating legacy systems
  • Clear communicator who writes docs that developers actually want to read
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Past experience owning critical software delivery platforms
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Experience with automated testing frameworks and continuous monitoring tools
  • Experience with Git workflows and feature branch development practices
  • Nice to have: experience working with federal/state/local government.
  • Department of Veterans Affairs experience preferred.

$140,000 - $157,000 a year
Compensation for this role is $140000 to $157000 Annual Salary + Benefits + Growth Potential

Placement within this range will be based on the competency level of the candidate. An offer will be made at one of the following tiers:

Tier 1: $140000— Meets minimum qualification/experience requirements. Beyond onboarding, will need additional guidance and training to perform key responsibilities of the role.

Tier 2: $147000— Experienced and fully-competent. Beyond onboarding, can independently perform key responsibilities of the role.

Tier 3: $157000— Highly-experienced and can perform all responsibilities of the role at a higher level than expected once onboarding is completed.

To honor our company-wide equitable pay system, the posted salary range and corresponding tier salaries are non-negotiable.

Note: to ensure we remain compliant with all state, county, and local employment and tax regulations, applicants must currently reside in one of the following states to be considered for employment with MO. This list will be updated periodically as our Employee Experience team works to open up hiring in additional states.

The contract this position supports requires US Citizenship.

In support of the Colorado Equal Pay Transparency Act, and others like it across the country, MO's job descriptions feature the starting range we reasonably expect to pay to candidates who would join our team with little to no need for training on the responsibilities we've outlined above. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and responsibility.
