Medtronic Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) AI Research group develops the next-generation technologies that revolutionize the care of millions of patients worldwide. Our products range from complex cloud-based information processing at massive scale to efficient algorithms controlling the real-time operation of implanted cardiac devices. 

 

We are looking for an engineer who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including artificial intelligence, computer vision, augmented reality, virtual reality, and 3D computer graphics. 

 

As a Principal R&D Engineer, you will work on multiple projects critical to the needs of Medtronic’s CRM operating unit. Our engineers need to be versatile, display leadership qualities, and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward. 

 

This position is in Mounds View, MN within the CRM operating unit and requires on-site presence at least four days a week.

In general, the following responsibilities apply for the Principal R&D Engineer role. This includes, but is not limited to the following: 

 

  • Develop novel VR and XR applications to support product innovation for implantable cardiac devices. 

  • Develop software tools to support early feasibility research and prototype new features. 

  • Work closely with Project Managers, Research Scientists, and fellow engineers to frame problems within the business context. 

 

Must Have 

  • Bachelor’s degree with 7 years of relevant experience or an advanced degree with 5 years of relevant experience 

 
Nice to Have 

  • Experience with Unity and GPU programming. 

  • Experience working with medical imaging and anatomy data, such as CT, ultrasound, and other related data types. 

  • Self-driven with the ability to deliver on open-ended projects with incomplete or dirty data.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$130,400.00 - $195,600.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others). 

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).

 

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to all regular employees: Incentive plans, 401(k) plan plus employer contribution and match, Short-term disability, Paid time off, Paid holidays, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Employee Assistance Program, Non-qualified Retirement Plan Supplement (subject to IRS earning minimums), and Capital Accumulation Plan (available to Vice Presidents and above, or subject to IRS earning minimums).

 

Regular employees are those who are not temporary, such as interns.  Temporary employees are eligible for paid sick time, as required under applicable state law, and the Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Please note some of the above benefits may not apply to workers in Puerto Rico.
