Lonza is currently seeking an experience CAPEX Project Engineer to join their team in Portsmouth, NH.
POSITION: CAPEX Project Engineer
JOB LOCATION: 101 International Drive Portsmouth, NH 03801 [and various unanticipated locations throughout the U.S.; may work from home]
DUTIES: Execute all aspects of capital project scoping, initiation, execution, and closeout. Execute full spectrum of project management responsibilities to include design and construction oversight. Manage financial aspects of projects including budgeting, estimating, capital approval process, budget oversight, spend forecasting, financial closeout and depreciation. Provide project leadership using engineering principles to support design and scope for a wide range of scales including strategic site CAPEX projects, recapitalization projects and customer tech transfers. Plan, lead and execute plant projects involving complex equipment changes, significant process improvements and commissioning protocols. Own change requests and complete change request tasks to support project completion while meeting all quality requirements in an operational biopharmaceutical facility. Develop innovative solutions to facilitate the successful implementation of current and future projects in a world class cGMP compliant bioprocess production facility. Manage and prioritize workload effectively with minimal supervision. Manage site CAPEX engineering contractors to augment Lonza engineering staff. Manage site CAPEX construction contractors based on project scope. Conduct regular check-ins with contractors to validate progress on work objectives. Assign work to contractors and prioritize work based on business needs and impact to quality and safety. Guide contractors through technical project and engineering challenges and escalation of issues. Process eCAR and Lump Sum initiation and closure documents and SharePoint forms. Complete engineering review/approval of commissioning protocols and validation protocols. Initiate EDCRs for updates to Engineering documents including engineering drawings. Remain up to date on all assigned training activities including Cornerstone Learning Portal, ComplianceWire, iComply and QSMRT. Utilize Microsoft Office Suite with focus on Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Possess a good understanding of and implement technical design and engineering principles, construction management principles, and quality standards within engineering, manufacturing and Bio-pharmaceutical facilities. Communicate via writing and oral communication to internal and external personnel and communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical people. Express ideas effectively in individual and group situations. Handle multiple projects simultaneously, keeping track of costs and schedule and ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards. Use organizational skills to prioritize and resolve project issues. Develop alternative courses of action that are based on logical assumptions, factual data and engineering principles with alternate actions that take into consideration resources, constraints and organizational priorities. Understand how other departments are impacted by engineering work and proactively communicates with other departments to feed into resource planning for those departments. Accomplish tasks through concern for all areas involved. Demonstrate the proper level of detail for all aspects of the job, accurately verifying processes, data and tasks. Work effectively with internal and external teams and those outside formal line of authority to accomplish project goals. Establish project plans that outline courses of action for self and/or others to accomplish specific goals. Monitor the activities of consultants, vendors and contractors and internal staff to ensure that resources are allocated properly in order to achieve project goals. Understand Lonza’s business systems and be proficient at working within those systems to achieve goals. Experience in project management in Bio-pharmaceutical facilities.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Requires a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent degree, in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering and five (5) years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or five (5) years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in a related occupation utilizing Microsoft Office Suite with focus on Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel; implimenting technical design and engineering principles, construction management principles, and quality standards within engineering, manufacturing and Bio-pharmaceutical facilities. Experience in project management in Bio-pharmaceutical facilities.
In the alternative, the employer will accept a Masters degree, or foreign equivalent degree, in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering and three (3) years of experience in the job offered or three (3) years of experience in a related occupation utilizing Microsoft Office Suite with focus on Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel; understanding technical design and engineering principles, construction management principles, and quality standards within engineering, manufacturing and Bio-pharmaceutical facilities. Experience in project management in Bio-pharmaceutical facilities.
