Reports Directly to: HSSE Sr. Director-Life Sciences Lead

What this job involves - We are currently seeking a Director of Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) to join our account-based facilities team. This is a full time, onsite position near either Thousand Oaks, CA; Cambridge, MA; West Greenwich, RI; Columbus, OH or San Francisco, CA. Travel to various sites to review site activities, to investigate events, or to attend various meetings will be required.

What is the day to day?

• Foster an inclusive and energizing environment by serving as the primary point of contact for HSSE requirements and activities, inspiring others to prioritize safety and well-being across all operational sites.
• Lead the ongoing development and refinement of JLL’s HSSE culture and training programs, motivating teams to succeed and grow while showing genuine care for their safety and development.
• Collaborate across the HSSE Life Sciences team, to share best practices and deliver the best solutions for clients, communities, and the planet.
• Build trust and strong partnerships with both the JLL Team and Client Team by providing key performance and risk indicators, and by ensuring transparent communication of HSSE needs and results to the Account Leadership Team.
• Move fast by reducing complexity in HSSE processes, setting clear direction for the team, and ensuring the development and maintenance of the account training matrix.
• Manage trend analysis and adjust management systems as necessary, streamlining procedures and documentation to support operational excellence and compliance.
• Demonstrate courage, decisiveness, and resilience by leading or supporting investigations of serious safety events, analyzing root causes, and ensuring the implementation of effective corrective and preventative actions.
• Deliver on commitments by supporting environmental compliance efforts, maintaining HSSE procedures and records, and serving as the primary point of contact for client support related to HSSE communications and activities.
• Drive continuous improvement in health, safety, and environmental practices.
• Balance short-term results and long-term value by proactively identifying risks, sharing lessons learned, and preparing the organization for evolving HSSE challenges.

Required

• Demonstrate expertise in safety management, industrial hygiene, environmental science, or a related field, reflecting a commitment to continuous learning and technical excellence.
• Bring 8+ years of experience, including people management, and relevant professional certifications, exemplifying a high standard of professionalism and leadership.
• Exhibit strong organizational skills, information management proficiency, and a collaborative management style, supporting JLL’s vision of combining global reach with local expertise.
• Show evidence of strong interpersonal skills to establish credibility with colleagues and clients, fostering a culture of trust and partnership.
• Possess the ability to identify root causes of HSSE incidents and events, and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, supporting JLL’s focus on transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Preferred

• Relevant Professional certification (CSP, CIH, CHM, CSHM, etc.)
• Masters’ degree in relevant field
• GxP / GMP experience
• Knowledge of ISO 45001 & 14001 management systems

Estimated total compensation for this position:

139,080.00 – 201,720.00 USD per year

The total compensation range is an estimate and not guaranteed. An employment offer is based on an applicant's education, experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, internal equity and alignment with market data .
