Description

The HR Business Partner – Mergers and Acquisition (HRBP, M&A) is a strategic and driven partner who leads and supports human resources integration efforts during mergers and acquisitions. This role will partner with cross-functional teams to drive seamless people transitions, culture alignment, organizational design, and change management activities across all stages of the deal lifecycle.


Key Responsibilities

The HRBP, Mergers and Acquisitions will be successful when:

  M&A Integration Planning & Execution

o   Partner with M&A Leadership and HR Leadership to assess HR impacts of transactions and develop integration strategies.

o   Lead the HR workstream in pre-deal due diligence and post-deal integration planning.

o   Identify and mitigate people-related risks and issues (e.g., talent retention, compensation parity, compliance).   

  Change Management & Communication

o   Develop and implement communication and change management plans to ensure a positive team member experience throughout the transition.

o   Through partnership with the M&A Leadership team and HR Leadership team, act as a change champion to help leaders and team members adapt to new organizational structures and processes.

Talent Management & Organizational Design

o   Support workforce planning, role mapping, and organization design decisions aligned with business objectives. Makes recommendations on offers and/or separations at time of announcement, through partnership with Recruiting and Talent Management.  

o   Coordinate onboarding, training, and team member engagement activities for acquired team members.

Compliance & HR Operations

o   Ensure legal compliance in employment transitions, including contracts, benefits harmonization, and systems migration (e.g., HRIS).

o   Partner with HR operations to ensure smooth transitions of employee records, payroll, and benefits.

Stakeholder Management

o   Serve as the primary HR point of contact for acquired leaders and employees, until a long-term HR Partner has been identified. 

o   Support the Talent Management transition to the new partner post close.

o   Collaborate with HR Departments including Recruitment, Talent Management and Total Rewards.



Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred
  • HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 1 year in M&A integration or organizational transformation.
  • Demonstrated experience managing HR processes across the M&A lifecycle (due diligence to post-close).
  • Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple complex initiatives simultaneously.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Knowledge of employment law and HR best practices across multiple jurisdictions is a plus.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high-growth, or global organization preferred.
 
Position Details:
·        Title: Human Resources Business Partner, Mergers & Acquisitions 
·        Bonus Potential: Up to $5,000 per successful completion of each platform integration, and up to $3,000 per successful completion of each tuck-in or expansion integration, according to the success criteria outlined above.  Measurable after 90 days post-close and payable as soon as administratively possible thereafter.
·        Reports To: Vice President, Talent Management
·        Dedicated To: Continental M&A Team
·        Direct Reports: None
·        Depending on the length and complexity of the integration process, HR Business Partner duties may be assigned, as needed, for the acquired, merged, or current population.
·        Role requires travel to all acquired or merged work locations at a frequency set by operations and HR, but should fall roughly in the following ranges:
o   First 30 Days Post-Close: 3-4 days per week on site.
o   31-90 Days Post-Close: 2-3 days per week on site.
o   3-6 Months Post-Close: 2-3 days per week every other week.
