Staff Flight Test Engineer, VTOL
Skills
- Extensive experience with developmental aircraft test conducting and directing.
- Strong knowledge of Test & Evaluation engineering concepts and regulatory standards (DCMA INST 8210, MIL-STD-516, 14 CFR).
- Proficient understanding of National Airspace System, restricted airspace, and UAS regulations.
- Skilled in test planning, execution, and reporting across manned and unmanned aircraft systems.
- Strong computer skills and documentation capabilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and in team settings on complex engineering tasks.
- Willingness to work extended hours and travel as required.
- Capability to obtain and maintain U.S. Secret level security clearance.
Responsibilities
- Determine, develop and recommend approaches to achieve Test & Evaluation goals under minimal supervision.
- Manage and guide the Flight Test Engineering team and supporting personnel.
- Provide direct input to test event planning, preparation, execution, and reporting.
- Focus on new aircraft development, including envelope expansion, flying qualities, and vehicle autonomy.
- Author ground and flight test plans and execute test events from control room environments.
- Supervise configuration of multiple test articles to support high-risk test events.
- Test hardware and software in rigs, ground, and flight environments and seek process improvements.
- Act as Pilot In Command for envelope expansion and early flight campaigns where applicable.
- Facilitate technical interactions across engineering teams, Test & Evaluation, Flight Operations, and Maintenance.
- Contribute to engineering reviews and coordinate technical discussions with customers.
- Develop creative solutions to complex technical and execution challenges autonomously.
- Help challenge and reshape traditional Test & Evaluation paradigms in the flight test industry.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution OR equivalent engineering experience.
