Job Description

The Work itself:

  • Design, develop and implement next generation observability products that are a critical part of Visa’s operational system, while influencing Visa’s internal standards for scalability, security, and reusability
  • Collaborate multi-functionally to create design and develop best-in-class observability products for multiple Visa technical offerings
  • Work with key stakeholders in product development, infrastructure and operation team to provide the best quality and high reliability observability products that fit their business needs.
  • Leverage innovative and latest technologies to build the next generation observability products which are cost effective with high reliability and scalability.
  • Lead a team of software engineers. Provide coaching and support to achieve highest quality of work.

Essential Functions:

Leadership & Vision:

  • Define and communicate the strategic vision for the next-generation observability products.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements in observability, root cause analysis, correlation technology.
  • Platform Design & Implementation:
  • Lead the architecture, design, and development of a robust observability products that integrate the latest technology to modernize observability, RCA, correlation solutions.
  • Ensure products provide reliable, scalable, and high-performance services to meet the needs of various stakeholders.

Technical and Development Leadership:

  • Provide hands-on technical leadership and mentorship to the development team.
  • Guide the team through complex technical challenges, ensuring best practices and high-quality code standards are maintained.
  • Oversee the entire lifecycle of the platform development, from initial concept through to deployment and ongoing maintenance.
  • Work closely with program management team to develop and manage project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Implement and oversee rigorous testing, monitoring, and performance tuning processes to ensure the platform meets high standards of reliability and efficiency.
  • Address and resolve any issues or bottlenecks that arise during development and deployment.

Team Building & Management:

  • Build and manage a high-performing team of engineers, developers, and other technical staff.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment, promoting continuous learning and development.

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, operations, and other engineering teams to align the platform development with business goals.
  • Communicate progress, challenges, and achievements to executive leadership and other stakeholders

This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant work experience and a Bachelors degree, OR 13+ years of relevant work experience


Preferred Qualifications

  • 12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 8-10 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 6+ years of work experience with a PhD
  • 4-5 years’ experience leading teams. Number of years of relevant experience is little flexible if you have excellent track record
  • Proven experience in leading the design and implementation of large-scale observability products with latest technology including agents, pipeline and real-time data store
  • Strong technical background in software and system development, with hands on experience in java, go, python.
  • Deep understanding at system level, including compute, storage and network components.
  • Hands on experience with latest database, including both RMDB like mySQL, MSSQL, TSDB like promethus, graph database like neo4j or TigerGraph. Hands on experience with ClickHouse a big plus.
  • Hands on experience in building data pipeline with streaming technology like Kafka
  • Hands on experience with integration of operational tools/systems like CMDB, Everbridge/PagerDuty, etc
  • Demonstrated ability to stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing top priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills, being able to work with cross functional teams and key stakeholders to gather and refine requirements for next generation observability platform.
  • Strong experience in people management, leading teams of software and system engineers, managing performance and grow talent.

Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 196,000.00 to 284,450.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity. Visa has a comprehensive benefits package for which this position may be eligible that includes Medical, Dental, Vision, 401 (k), FSA/HSA, Life Insurance, Paid Time Off, and Wellness Program.
