The Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric and Earth Science at the University of Miami is seeking an Assistant Scientist to work on a project to advance knowledge on critical questions about the drivers of decadal to multidecadal variability, and how they change with time in the past, present, and future. Specifically, we will assess the relative influence of the ‘signal’ of external forcing to the ‘noise’ generated by processes internal to the climate system in models and observations. The person hired into this position will develop and perform experiments with a Community Earth System Model (CESM) hierarchy, and develop simple analytical models to interpret model results and observations. The successful applicant will work with Dr. Amy Clement and a dynamic team of students, scientists. Anticipated duties include performing simulations with a climate model hierarchy, analysis of observational data and climate model output, and communication of findings in written and oral form.
Desired qualifications include a Ph.D. in ocean or atmospheric science, strong quantitative and programming skills, experience with running the Community Earth System Model or other atmosphere or ocean general circulation models, and strong oral and written communication skills. The salary will be competitive and commensurate with relevant experience.
