PURPOSE

The Associate Director of Islander Housing is a key member of the Islander Housing leadership team, reporting directly to the Director of Residence Experience while also providing support to the Director of Housing Operations. This role supports both Residence Life and Housing Operations to enhance the residential student experience through operational excellence, safety oversight, system management, and student-centered services. This position supervises both Residence Life Coordinators and Operation Coordinators as assigned, manages housing assessments, supports StarRez housing management software, oversees key and lockout processes, conducts safety audits, and leads communication initiatives for Islander Housing.

DESCRIPTION

Functional Area 1: Leadership and Support

Percent Effort: 30%

  • Provide support and supervision to assigned professional and student staff.

  • Serve as a leadership presence at Islander Housing programs, events, and crisis response situations.

  • Participate in leadership team meetings, strategic planning, and cross-departmental projects.

  • Serves on-call with other staff assigned for after-hour response.

  • Participates in planning, directing, and coordinating operational or procedural matters to meet department goals and objectives

  • Enforce the terms and conditions of the Student Housing Contract, Resident Handbook, and all state/federal laws; investigate, resolve, and/or refer for adjudication.

  • Works with University Police Department, Counseling Center, and other campus departments on immediate response to incidents in the residence halls.

  • Respond to student and parent concerns; refer difficult cases to appropriate personnel

  • Demonstrate care, compassion, and follow through with student mental health and roommate related concerns.

  • Acts as a Mandatory Reporter (Campus Security Authority) as required by the Clery Act

Functional Area 2: Assessment and Evaluation

Percent Effort: 20%

  • Lead departmental assessment initiatives for Islander Housing, including audits, surveys, and reports.

  • Develop and analyze assessment tools to measure operational efficiency, student satisfaction, and program effectiveness.

  • Prepare monthly, semester, and annual reports for departmental leadership and divisional assessment efforts.

Functional Area 3: Operational Management

Percent Effort: 20%

  • Coordinate and oversee the key control system, lockout processes, and safety audits for residential facilities.

  • Ensure policies and procedures are followed regarding key issuance, collection, and security.

  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to maintain compliance with safety standards and housing policies.

  • Assist with coordination of Move-In, Move-Out, and room turnover processes.

  • Partners with Islander Housing Staff on facility needs, preventive maintenance planning, and summer transition processes.

Functional Area 4: Technology and Systems Support

Percent Effort: 15%

  • Support the department's StarRez system; assist with housing processes, room assignments, reporting, and troubleshooting.

  • Coordinate user access, system updates, and training for housing staff.

  • Collaborate with IT and StarRez vendor support as necessary to resolve issues and enhance system functionality.

Functional Area 5: Communication and Outreach

Percent Effort: 15%

  • Coordinate departmental communications related to Islander Housing (email campaigns, website updates, newsletters, student messaging, emergency communication templates).

  • Partner with Marketing and Communications to ensure alignment with TAMU-CC branding and messaging standards.

  • Develop and maintain proactive communication plans for key housing processes such as Move-In, Move-Out, reapplication, and emergency response.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.

  • Eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in housing operations, residence life, or related areas.

  • Additional education may be used as a substitute for the minimum experience requirement:

    • Master’s degree in applicable field with six (6) years of related experience.

    • Doctoral degree in applicable field with four (4) years of related experience.

  • Experience managing housing software systems (StarRez preferred).

  • Strong skills in assessment, reporting, and data analysis.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Eight (8) or more years related experience in residence life, housing, or a university environment working with a student-oriented and service-centered attitude.

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, or related field.

  • Experience in key management, safety audits, and housing operations.

  • Previous experience supervising professional or paraprofessional staff.

  • Experience with emergency management protocols in residential settings.

  • Strong project management skills and ability to balance multiple priorities.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • This is a 12-month, live-in position. The Associate Director is required to live in an apartment on campus. The apartments are furnished and include utilities and wireless internet.  Partner and pet policies are available upon request.

  • Must be able to navigate a flexible schedule due to night and weekend duties as needed.

  • In the event of a weather-related emergency, the Associate Director will assist with departmental and campus evacuation procedures.
