Senior Database Automation Engineer

The Team:

Our team solves a wide range of issues related to database automation within our Market Intelligence division. This includes designing, implementing, and optimizing automated solutions to support data workflows, improve system efficiency, and reduce manual intervention. A strong focus on scalability and reliability is key.

Responsibilities & Impact:

The Senior Database Automation Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining automated database systems and processes. This role requires a deep understanding of database management systems, automation tools, and best practices in database architecture. The ideal candidate will work closely with development, operations, and data teams to enhance database performance, reliability, and scalability.

  • Design and implement automated database solutions to streamline operations and improve efficiency.

  • Develop scripts and tools for database deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify automation opportunities and implement solutions.

  • Maintain documentation for automated processes, systems, and workflows.

  • Stay updated with the latest database technologies and automation trends.

  • Mentor junior engineers and provide guidance on best practices in database automation.

Compensation/Benefits Information: (This section is only applicable to US candidates)

S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $140,000 to $170,000. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual’s geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses and certifications.

In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan. This role is not eligible for additional compensation such as an annual incentive bonus or sales commission plan.

What We’re Looking For:

Basic Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in database engineering, database administration, or a similar role.

  • Proficiency in SQL and experience with database management systems such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, or SQL Server.

  • Experience with automation tools and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell).

  • Strong understanding of database architecture, performance tuning, and security best practices.

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) and their database services is a plus.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.

  • Certification in relevant database technologies is a plus.
