At Scribd (pronounced “scribbed”), our mission is to spark human curiosity. Join our team as we create a world of stories and knowledge, democratize the exchange of ideas and information, and empower collective expertise through our three products: Everand, Scribd, and Slideshare.
We support a culture where our employees can be real and be bold; where we debate and commit as we embrace plot twists; and where every employee is empowered to take action as we prioritize the customer.
When it comes to workplace structure, we believe in balancing individual flexibility and community connections. It’s through our flexible work benefit, Scribd Flex, that employees – in partnership with their manager – can choose the daily work-style that best suits their individual needs. A key tenet of Scribd Flex is our prioritization of intentional in-person moments to build collaboration, culture, and connection. For this reason, occasional in-person attendance is required for all Scribd employees, regardless of their location.
So what are we looking for in new team members? Well, we hire for “GRIT”. The textbook definition of GRIT is demonstrating the intersection of passion and perseverance towards long term goals. At Scribd, we are inspired by the potential that this can unlock, and ask each of our employees to pursue a GRIT-ty approach to their work. In a tactical sense, GRIT is also a handy acronym that outlines the standards we hold ourselves and each other to. Here’s what that means for you: we’re looking for someone who showcases the ability to set and achieve Goals, achieve Results within their job responsibilities, contribute Innovative ideas and solutions, and positively influence the broader Team through collaboration and attitude.
About the team and role
As a Staff React Native Engineer on the Everand team, you’ll play a key role in shaping the future of our mobile platform. You’ll lead the architectural strategy for integrating React Native, designing the foundational systems that enable scalable, maintainable hybrid development across our mobile apps.
You’ll work closely with engineers, designers, and product partners to align technical decisions with user needs and platform capabilities. Along the way, you’ll guide migration efforts, establish best practices, and mentor other engineers to help ensure a thoughtful, successful adoption of React Native across Scribd.
We value quality over speed, thoughtful planning over short-term hacks, and continuous improvement over “just good enough.” We’re looking for engineers who share these values and who are energized by writing clean, scalable code, trying new technologies, and collaborating with diverse teams.
We believe the best mobile experiences come from teams who care deeply about the people they build for, and each other.
About the Role
Your main focus will be to lead the architectural strategy and implementation for integrating React Native into Everand’s mobile platform.
Much of your work will center on building the foundational systems that enable a hybrid mobile architecture bridging native and cross-platform components.
You’ll evaluate, recommend, and integrate key React Native libraries as well as performance monitoring tools.
In partnership with engineering leads and cross-functional teams, you’ll help define and support clear migration paths toward the new architecture.
You will play a pivotal role in shaping development standards, testing strategies, and mentoring engineers to support growth across our mobile engineering teams.
We’re excited about you because
Bring significant experience in software development, with meaningful contributions to mobile apps across different teams or projects.
Have built and maintained features in both React Native and at least one native platform (e.g., Swift/Objective-C for iOS or Kotlin/Java for Android).
Understand the nuances of mobile performance, memory management, and platform-specific challenges.
Led architecture planning and helped engineering teams make informed tradeoffs.
Understand the nuances of mobile performance, memory management, and platform-specific constraints.
Communicate early and often with cross-functional partners across engineering, product, design, and QA to ensure alignment and a shared understanding.
Take ownership of your work from design through delivery, and value long-term thinking over quick fixes.
Appreciate the strength of diverse perspectives and thrive on being part of an inclusive team.
Embrace a growth mindset, value mentorship, and enjoy helping others grow.
It’s a plus if you also have - (Optional)
You’ve supported or led the migration of native mobile apps to React Native.
You’re comfortable working with TypeScript, Metro bundler, and native modules.
