Data Center Engineer

We are seeking a talented and self-motivated Data Center Engineer to join a growing engineering team. The successful Data Center Engineer for this position will be working closely with engineers and traders to optimize our data center footprint for low latency and efficiency. The Data Center Engineer must be highly self-motivated, excel at multitasking and comfortable working in a demanding, state-of-the-art trading environment. The company participates in a wide variety of marketplaces including global futures, equities, commodities, options, fixed income, and cryptocurrencies. The company culture emphasizes teamwork and focuses on continuous integration and test-driven development.
Data Center Engineer Responsibilities:
- Manage shipping and receiving hardware at the data center.
- Be responsible for inventory and documentation of data center hardware.
- Be able to install cable switches, servers, and other data center equipment.
- You should have the ability to travel to local data centers on a frequent basis.
- Be able to excel with minimum supervision.
- You should be highly organized, self-motivated, able to multi-task, able to work independently as well as a team player.
- Have the initiative driving projects to completion.
- Do risk assessments of existing or new services and technologies.
Data Center Engineer Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year university or comparable work experience.
- Experience with Data Center best practices such as power management, cooling, and capacity planning.
- Basic understanding of network troubleshooting concepts.
- Familiar with testing and installing fiber optic cables and optical taps.
- Understanding of different network and server components; SFPs, modules, RAM.
- Comfortable using Windows or Linux systems.
- You must be able to interact with management, vendors and external parties.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Motivated to pinpoint areas of improvement within the infrastructure and the technical ability to execute on the implementation.
- Expert troubleshooting skills are required.
- Must have experience in 24/7 environments is required.
