Specialist, Data Solution Analyst - DPIM

  • Developing SQL queries and statements for a variety of purposes such as data quality checks, downstream partner information requests, and data cleanup jobs involving inserts and updates. 

  • Traversing Linux database servers. 

  • Building and running XML batch processes via the command line. 

  • Utilizing Python and JupyterLab/Notebooks to compare, manipulate, and analyze data across different databases, extracts, and systems to ensure normalization and consistency. 

  • Researching questions and issues from business partners on a case-by-case basis as a part of production support. 

  • Identifying data quality issues and reviewing error reports to communicate findings to team members and business partners. 

  • Coordinating data changes and data flows within ETL and MDM processes- including team members as well as upstream and downstream partners. 

  • Participating in daily Agile stand-up meetings with the development team that involve the completion of Jira task cards. 

  • Analyzing business and technical requirements for translation into database processes. 

  • Collaborating with team members on a variety of projects focused on improving data quality and functionality. 

  • Assisting the production support team with ServiceNow incident tickets. 

  • Mapping the flow of data and the business processes and/or technical interfaces which would be created or impacted and recommending solutions/adaptations. 

 

Skills: 

 

  • Previous experience in an MDM (Master Data Management)  

  • Experience with SQL in DB2, Oracle, and Teradata environments.  

  • A deep understanding of large relational databases. 

  • Experience with Python  

  • Experience in data analysis tasks in Jupyter Notebooks.  

  • Proficiency in writing scripts that can be used with embedded SQL. 

  • Experience with Power BI  

  • Technical Analysis 

  • Proficiency in translating business needs into technical requirements. 

  • Experience R4J a plus. 

  • Ability to demonstrate effective communication skills. 

  • Ability handle several projects at one time. 

  • Familiarity with running API calls. 

  • Experience running basic Linux, Bash command line skills are a plus.  

  • Experience with Git and GitHub.

As a Data Solution Analyst, you’ll translate functional data and analytic requirements into solutions for consumption and use by the respective business or technology request or leveraging a variety of approved technologies. The technologies include (but are not limited to) Paxata, Tableau, Micro strategy, Business Objects, R, or other reporting and visualization solutions being considered for operationalization. You’ll also have the opportunity to guide others to leverage self-service techniques for business reporting and analytics.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Elicits reporting and analytic requirements from business and technology requestors to generate visualization or analysis.

  • Supports implementation of data requirements and practices for an assigned area.

  • Applies secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to ensure our data and technology solutions are protected from threats and vulnerabilities.

  • Under supervision creates and executes standard visualization techniques.

  • Uses visualization and analysis techniques to present findings of data exploration exercises to stakeholders based on requirements gleaned.

  • Maps the flow of data and the business processes and/or technical interfaces which would be created or impacted and recommends solutions/adaptations.

  • Collaborates with others to implement standardized data reporting, analytics, and visualization tools.

  • Works on profiling, mapping, and modeling tools.

  • With guidance may partner with others on projects requiring data visualization.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to Manager/Director Data Leader.

Typical Skills and Experiences: 

Education:  Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, business, statistics, math, a related field or comparable experience and education strongly preferred.  Graduate studies in business, statistics, math, computer science or a related field are a plus.

License/Certification/Designation:  Certifications are not required but encouraged.

Experience:  Two to five years of relevant experience with data management/ organization/ analytics or practices.  Experience in with data visualization tools, reporting and self-service analytic techniques. Experience in application of data acquisition and data wrangling. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:  Data application and practices knowledge. Good oral and written communication skills.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and HR Business Partner.
