Job Summary

The Director of the Counseling Center provides leadership to the University’s Counseling Center through oversight of all operational, administrative, clinical personnel, budgetary, planning, and assessment activities.  Oversee the management of departmental resources, outreach, assessments, accreditation processes, staffing, and budgets that supports the mental health needs of a diverse student body.  Serve as a primary point of contact on issues that pertain to student emotional health including referrals, triage of services, community partnerships and linkages across campus. Create, revise and monitor campus and system policy and health requirements.  The Director supervises the staff in the center and is responsible for the success of the internship program and coordination of online therapy services (Timely Care) and communication with psychiatric services.

Authority and Accountability

The Director of Counseling reports directly to the Dean of Students and has full responsibility for the Counseling Center budget and operations within the University Counseling Center. This includes final approval for the internship program; communications and oversight of the Timely Care (online outreach services); and educational training and outreach programs of the department.

Required/Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work or related field.  Five to seven years of experience in clinical health or mental health, along with two years supervisory experience. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).  Licensed or licensed eligible in the state of Maryland at the time of hire.  If license eligible, must complete licensure within six months of start. Administrative experience in a clinical or mental health environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong commitment to providing services to multi-racial and other diverse student populations.  Experience developing and overseeing a budget. Demonstrated skill with implementing innovative strategies, inter-institutional and external partnerships, and/or promising practices. Proficiency with Titanium software program. Understanding of best practices in Counseling Center management in a higher education environment.

The position is a full-time, exempt state role with comprehensive benefits.
