Skills
- Expertise in automotive closure systems and sub-systems.
- System level integration proficiency.
- Experience with Class A surface data.
- Proficient in 3D CAD tools like CATIA V5/V6.
- Hands-on prototype and production assembly experience.
- Engineering first principles mindset and problem-solving skills.
- Design release engineering and change management capabilities.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes for metals and plastics.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop automotive closure items like hood, fender, side door, decklid, and liftgate systems with expertise in metal and plastics engineering.
- Engineer first-principles designs focusing on functional performance, packaging, weight, durability, and cost optimization.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers to integrate multiple systems efficiently.
- Work cross-functionally with Vehicle Safety, Dynamics, NVH, Durability, Manufacturing, and Design teams to create world-class designs.
- Use CAE analysis to guide and evolve design solutions.
- Manage manufacturing collaboration to ensure efficient process and build quality.
- Coordinate tool buy-offs and secondary component changes with Purchasing, Supplier Quality, Stamping, and Suppliers.
- Develop and conduct testing plans to validate design concepts and performance targets.
- Lead communication with suppliers to develop manufacturable and quality design solutions.
- Apply GD&T for tolerance datum schemes.
- Travel domestically and internationally as needed.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent from ABET accredited institution or equivalent closures automotive experience.
