Essential Duties:
Lead cutting edge R&D initiatives within a highly interdisciplinary environment that requires working with chemists, physicists and engineers. The research encompasses programs spanning across optical materials, optics and advanced spectroscopy and atomistic simulation of materials.
Required Skills:
Expert level ability in laboratory research particularly in light matter interaction across a broad range of materials and photonic devices with various state-of-the-art spectroscopy techniques.
Excellent theoretical foundation for atomistic modeling and knowledge of current and emerging ML/AI techniques which are essential for materials development. Ability to lead the development of materials discovery platforms.
Strong knowledge of fabrication techniques related to thin-films, wet chemistry and solid-state samples.
Generate ideas for new programs, market ideas, and write proposals for funding. Lead program teams for awarded proposals.
Knowledge of building and control of experiments with ultrafast lasers and various spectroscopy techniques is desired. Debugging measurements and optimizing signal for a variety of complex experimental conditions and material systems.
Experience in atomistic material simulation within frameworks such as density functional theory and relevant codes such as VASP, QuantumEspresso or CP2K is desired. Accompanying knowledge and experience with scheduling these simulations on HPC environments is a plus.
Knowledge of state-of-the-art ML/AI techniques being developed for material discovery and development is also a plus.
Highly proficient with writing code in languages like Python or C++ to perform data analysis or interface with optomechanical or electronic test components is desired.
Skilled at new material development and comfortable performing routine wet laboratory processing of materials is desired.
Experience in simulating photonic, metamaterial and optical systems in a variety of simulation frameworks such as Lumerical, ZEMAX or COMSOL is desired.
Demonstrated experience of proposing research via grant applications would be a plus.
Required Education:
PhD in Chemistry, Physics or Engineering with a highly interdisciplinary emphasis on optical material/device development, material modeling, and characterization.
Physical Requirements:
Must be capable of performing extended analysis at computer workstations.
Must be able to work safely in an optical, electrical testing and wet chemistry laboratory.
Special Requirements:
U.S. citizenship.
Must be willing to apply for and maintain a security clearance.
Compensation:
The base salary range for this full-time position is $145,745 - $186,688 + bonus + benefits.
