Senior Software Engineer, Google Labs AI

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5 years of experience with software development, including in data structures and algorithms.
• 3 years of experience in system design and architecture, with a focus on building scalable and reliable software products.
• Experience in Kotlin or a comparable backend programming language, with large-scale backend systems.
• Experience leading technical projects from design to deployment, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Preferred qualifications:

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience in a technical leadership role, mentoring junior engineers or guiding a team's technical direction.
• Experience designing and implementing asynchronous API architectures for high-performance, user-facing applications.
• Experience with generative AI, machine learning, or rich media processing (e.g., video/image manipulation).
• Ability to thrive in an ambiguous, fluid environment, making strategic technical trade-offs to deliver impactful production systems.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $166,000-$244,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities:

• Lead the development and launch of impactful, intuitive, and high-performance user-facing features for Google Flow, directly influence how millions create stunning videos with AI.
• Design and implement robust, scalable solutions for complex challenges including asynchronous Application programming interfaces (API), advanced video generation and processing, and deep integration with Google infrastructure.
• Drive high-level technical decisions and architectural direction, balancing rapid iteration with the establishment of a robust and scalable foundation for the evolving Generative AI platform.
• Collaborate strategically with Product Managers, UX Designers, and partner teams across Google to translate complex goals into polished, delightful, and impactful user experiences, representing the team's technical needs and roadmap.
• Address novel and complex technical hurdles, such as optimizing for paying users and large-scale media processing, make critical decisions on technical debt and strategic shortcuts.
