About the role:

The AI Engineering team at Foodsmart is at the heart of transforming how millions of people access personalized nutrition and care. From building conversational experiences and predictive models to optimizing personalized outreach, the team integrates intelligent systems across the entire member journey. The Senior AI Engineer will play a critical role in designing and deploying solutions that drive real-world impact—like tailoring communications, improving engagement, and reducing missed appointments. We’re looking for someone who thrives in applying modern AI to practical challenges and who’s excited to shape the future of digital foodcare through scalable, thoughtful innovation.

• Develop and maintain AI powered applications
• Collaborate with front-end engineers to design and implement APIs that effectively serve front-end needs.
• Establish and uphold development practices, including code reviews and comprehensive testing, to enhance code quality and system performance.
• Build and deploy models that power real-time personalization, such as dynamic marketing segmentation and smart outreach throttling
• Fine-tune foundational models (e.g., Hugging Face, OpenAI) to deliver use cases like chatbots, eligibility screening, and appointment scheduling
• Collaborate with product, engineering, and data teams to integrate AI into backend APIs and member-facing applications
• Monitor and iterate on model performance, data integrity, and user impact in production environments

• Firm in your understanding of software engineering principles, with strong knowledge of algorithms and data structures.
• Proficient with backend development tools and experienced with server architecture.
• Familiar with database design principles, management systems like SQL or NoSQL, and 
• A builder at heart—energized by shipping real, intelligent systems that serve millions
• Comfortable working across the ML stack, from data prep to deploymen
• Thoughtful about user experience and how AI can reduce friction and improve outcomes
• Collaborative, curious, and motivated to work across teams and functions
• Pragmatic—able to balance accuracy, latency, scalability, and maintainability

• 2+ years of experience building and deploying ML/DL models in production settings
• 2+ Experience in developing backend systems using Node.js, TypeScript, or Java
• Strong skills in Python and ML frameworks like PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Hugging Face
• Experience with real-time personalization, segmentation, or behavioral modeling
• Familiarity with MLOps practices and tools like MLflow, Airflow, or SageMaker Pipelines
