This role

One of the most critical parts of accelerating our Mission is our Engineering team, who build and deploy the many products that change our customers’ lives every day.

After our acquisition of the KeyPay payroll platform, a powerful all-in-one payroll and workforce management solution, we’re now looking to continue our journey of integration and transformation of our payroll product.

This role will see you take the lead on engineering for our scaling Payroll platform, where you’ll mentor and lead your Delivery Leads, giving them vision and tools to iterate and scale our already successful product, and unifying our squads together through creating an innovation focused culture with effective fit for purpose ways of working.

Your key focus areas will be

  • Take the lead on engineering for our scaling Payroll platform, which is used by more than one million people every month, processing $150 billion dollars worth of wages every year.
  • Mentor and inspire your Delivery Leads, giving them the vision and tools to iterate and scale our already successful product.
  • Unify our squads through the creation of an innovative, high-performance culture with effective fit-for-purpose ways of working.

Your first 12 months will see you tackle a host of challenges, implementing a strategy of technology transformation, leveraging AI development tools for improved throughput and outcomes, and being a leader for your team as we move to a mission of ‘one mission, one platform’.

This will include

  • Ensuring platform uptime and performance - exceed documented Service level agreements of platform uptime driven through strategic initiatives.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration - build a strong partnership with Product Management to align engineering efforts with business goals and customer needs.
  • Team Leadership & Development - lead and develop a large, geographically diverse engineering team, fostering a culture of collaboration, growth, and high performance, and enabling leaders to develop strong, diverse teams.
  • Technical & Domain Expertise - engage in deep technical discussions with stakeholders, leveraging knowledge of the payroll domain and ensuring compliance in highly regulated environments.
  • Stakeholder Engagement - build trusted partnerships with business and technical stakeholders, acting as a champion for software engineering best practices and driving platform excellence.
  • Continuous Improvement - identify and implement efficiency and quality improvements, inspiring teams to embrace change and drive operational excellence.

Who you are

To thrive at Employment Hero, you’ll need to embody The EH Way - operating with focus, agility, and an obsession with impact. For this role, you’ll also bring

  • Extensive experience in Senior Engineering Management position, ideally of a large (50+ person) geographically diverse Engineering team.
  • A background of working in highly regulated or compliance driven business environments.
  • Knowledge of and advocate for Software Engineering best practices.
  • Experience working within a high-growth and fast-moving environment, particularly if it’s a SaaS product.
  • Ability to mentor team members and drive development and capabilities within the team.
  • Deep experience working with business stakeholders, developing strong trust and partnerships, with an ability to involve yourself in deep technical and business domain discussions.
