Software Engineer II - Fullstack

Our Opportunity:

Chewy is looking for a Fullstack Software Engineer II to join our Practice Hub organization in Boston, MA, contributing to the continued growth and innovation of our B2B Practice Hub Marketplace platform. This platform helps veterinary practices connect seamlessly with pharmaceutical and supply partners, streamlining how care is delivered across the veterinary ecosystem.

In this role, you'll work alongside experienced engineers, product managers, and designers to build backend services and scalable systems. While the role will work with both frontend and backend components, this position will lean more toward backend development using Java in a cloud-native environment.

What You’ll Do:

• Design, develop, test, and maintain backend services (and some frontend components) for the Practice Hub Marketplace platform, focusing on scalability, security, and performance.

• Collaborate with multi-functional teams to understand product requirements and translate them into technical solutions.

• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following engineering best practices.

• Participate in code reviews, architectural discussions, and contribute to the team’s technical growth.

• Contribute to platform reliability through observability, automated testing, and deployment pipelines.

• Continuously learn and grow by exploring new technologies and sharing knowledge within the team.

What You’ll Need:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent practical experience.

• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong foundation in backend development.

• Proficiency in Java, with experience building and scaling distributed systems or web services.

• Familiarity with cloud-based infrastructure (AWS preferred) and DevOps practices.

• Understanding of RESTful API design, microservices, and backend system architecture.

• Solid collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with product, design, and engineering peers.

• Enthusiasm for writing clean, maintainable code and solving complex technical problems.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working in e-commerce, B2B marketplaces, or healthcare technology platforms.

• Familiarity with event-driven architecture, data streaming tools like Kafka, or search technologies like Elasticsearch.

• Experience with frontend technologies such as React or Node.js

• Working knowledge of observability tools, security standards, and performance tuning for backend systems.
