How will you make an impact in this role?

The Credit Risk Oversight organization within Global Risk and Compliance (GRC) is responsible for independently overseeing and challenging the company’s credit risk taking and credit risk management activities, including the comprehensive identification, management, and mitigation of credit risks within the company’s risk appetite.

This person will lead a team of risk professionals who are responsible for providing credible challenge to US & International consumer and small business customer management and collections risk strategies and processes within AMEX. The candidate should have experience in credit risk management, data & analytics, risk appetite limit setting, portfolio monitoring and relevant regulatory regulations and guidance.

The incumbent will report to the VP, Credit Risk Oversight Customer Management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement remediation for credit and enterprise gaps as identified in project Guardian
  • Own, create, maintain, and publish Credit risk policy and Standards for customer management and collections
  • Prepare decks for large strategy approvals requiring senior management and committee approvals
  • Lead independent reviews of the consumer & small business risk processes and strategies
  • Create and maintain risk appetite statement, risk taxonomy, risk inventory and RAF metrics
  • Conduct Risk Assessment, and publish CRO commentary on a monthly basis
  • Maintain the criteria for Exceptions and Smart Monitoring KRIs and action appropriately. Produce, analyze and publish functional and exception monitoring MIS
  • Monitor concentrations in the consumer & small business portfolios and recommend actions to mitigate risk
  • Identify key strategic and/or regulatory issues for resolution with senior management
  • Escalate emerging risks by tracking macroeconomic and markets trends

    Experience and Background:

    • Leadership experience in risk management or a similar role;
    • Credit risk management experience with a minimum of 5 year experience in a leading financial services organization;
    • Strong business acumen with a risk-reward control perspective;
    • Experience in data-driven analytics, including analyzing structured and unstructured data;
    • Familiarity with applicable regulatory requirements;
    • Proven ability to successfully manage multiple priorities under pressure;
    • Advanced degree in quantitative or a related field

    Leadership Skills:

    • Proven leader who can build, encourage, and mentor a team with a passion for risk management;
    • Strong collaboration and influential leadership skills with the ability to build positive relationships across teams and levels of seniority;
    • Self-confident with a strong sense of integrity and the ability and willingness to challenge and be challenged;
    • Proactive in identifying issues, delivering and escalating key findings, and advising on recommended solutions to correct issues or mitigate risks;
    • Ability to communicate oversight findings to credit risk peers, business partners, and senior executives;
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

    Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
