What You’ll Do
The Mental Performance Coach is housed in the Athletic Department and reports directly to the Director of Athletics.
Key responsibilities:
The Mental Performance Consultant conducts comprehensive assessments to evaluate various mental and cognitive functions related to performance and develops and implements individualized mental performance intervention tailored to specific goals and needs of athlete or team.
Maintains detailed athletes service documentation, including progress notes and outcomes and collaborates and coordinates athlete care with an interdisciplinary team that may include strengthening conditioning, physical therapy, coaches, and the director of athletics.
Abiding by HIPPA regulations, the Mental Performance Consultant will meet with the FSU mental performance interns in to understand the specific strategies and goals each team is working on.
Primary responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Enhances the athletic performance of Tallahassee State College’s student-athletes. Implements mental skills training including but not limited to techniques to improve focus, confidence, goal setting, visualization, and stress management. Helps athletes manage performance anxiety through relaxation techniques, breathing exercises, and mindfulness practices. Develops strategies to maintain motivation and resilience, particularly after setbacks or injuries.
Supports the overall well-being of student-athletes. Provides a safe space for athletes to discuss personal or athletic-related challenges, assisting them in balancing academics, athletics, and social life. Teaches stress management techniques to handle pressures from academic workload, training demands, and personal issues. Promotes healthy lifestyle choices, including sleep hygiene, nutrition, and time management.
Collaborates with coaches and staff to optimize student-athlete support. Conducts workshops and training sessions for coaches, trainers, and staff on mental performance and well-being strategies. Facilitates team-building activities and enhances communication skills within the team and between coaches and athletes. Assesses the effectiveness of mental performance interventions and provides feedback to improve the support provided to athletes continuously.
Brings together athletes from various sports by offering tailored mental performance sessions that address specific needs such as confidence building, injury recovery, and leadership development.
Organizes monthly workshops and activities for all student-athletes to foster a sense of community, enhance peer support, and provide a platform for sharing experiences and strategies across different sports disciplines.
Oversees the FSU mental performance interns in training, regularly monitoring their progress and the impact of their work on the team's mental well-being and performance.
Work Schedule : Part time, 20 hours/week

A master’s degree in Sport and Performance Psychology or related field. Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) or is awaiting the exam. Experience working with collegiate or high-level athletes.
