Process Engineer

Responsibilities & Qualifications

The Novelis Bay Minette, AL team is seeking a Process Engineer to work on site. This role will report to the Process Leader of the Casthouse.

Responsibilities

• Assist in solving advanced analysis and identify areas of potential advancements in the processes, equipment, and facilities to achieve increased profitability through reduced costs, increased efficiency, improved quality, increased production output and optimized equipment uptime.
• During plant construction and start-up, work with equipment suppliers as well as internal team members to develop conceptual and functional requirements for short- and long-term process and equipment development consistent with the business plan.
• After plant start-up, optimize the aluminum manufacturing process by working closely with the Operations, Engineering, and Process groups.
• Application of innovative technology and techniques to resolve complex problems
• Lead training for operations teams
• Continually review process methods, equipment, and technology for robustness, reliability, and obsolescence. Develop plans for modifications and/or upgrades as needed.
• Constantly work towards innovations and continuous improvement.
• Apply Lean tools to measure and lead all processes, developing clear critical metrics, auditing and sharing performance feedback.
• Interact with internal peers and collaborators to support efforts to meet safety, quality, reliability, and cost goals.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Engineering, Metallurgy, Materials Science, Mechanical or 5+ years of experience in the metal recycling industry.
• Experience in heavy industry quality systems
• Strong focus on methodical problem-solving, project management skills and excellent communication skills
• Desire to take initiative and develop a proactive relationship with employees through follow-up, understanding their needs and encouraging a collaborative relationship.
• Available for up to 15% of domestic, noncontinuous travel in the first 12 months.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Aluminum recycling process experiences desired
• Background knowledge in recycling processes
• Experience in industrial settings and understanding of the high safety requirements
• Experienced in trouble shooting process for quality, performance issues, and factory process engineering
• Confirmed leadership skills to advise, coach and develop other personnel to accomplish personal, plant and corporate objectives.
• Software: SAP, PI, Siemens OpsCenter, MES systems, Blendmaster, PowerBI, Minitab, Visio.

Novelis' newly announced Bay Minette facility will be located 35 miles northeast of Mobile AL and 45 miles west of Pensacola FL and is expected to create approximately 1000 high-paying advanced careers in modern manufacturing. This highly advanced rolling and recycling facility will be the first of its kind. It will primarily serve our customers in the beverage can and automotive markets.
