About the Opportunity

JOB SUMMARY:

The Global Experience Office (GEO) is a central office of global education at Northeastern University, committed to ensuring that every Northeastern student has an opportunity to engage in intellectually challenging and culturally enriching experiences throughout the world. To achieve this, GEO partners with Northeastern colleges and units to integrate meaningful global experiences into their curricula and to enhance their capacity through global mobility. The Experiential Learning Program Manager serves as a part-time staff member, supporting one of our Global Network First Year Programs: New York City Scholars (NYCS).

 

The New York City Scholars Program is a unique opportunity for first-year students accepted for second year Admission to Northeastern University. Students will study at our partner institution of Marymount Manhattan College during the Fall and Spring semester of their first year and enter Northeastern University in the Fall semester of their second year. Partner universities provide academic courses to the participants while Northeastern University Global Network First Year Program and Student Life staff provide on-site leadership and support services.

 

During the extended academic year (summer, fall and spring), this individual will work on-site, supporting the operations for the NYCS Program location leading up to and through the fall and spring semesters with some remote work during parts of the summer.  The Experiential Learning Program Manager will work with Academic Affairs and advising teams and other campus partners on special projects and specific goals to ensure student and programmatic success.

 

With supervision from the Director of Global Network First Year Programs, the Experiential Learning Program Manager role is a year-round, part-time, benefits-eligible position with an option for the person in this role to live on-site with students. Individuals will work non-traditional hours including some evenings and weekends, supporting student programming, and attending to the safety and wellbeing of students and staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Academic Affairs and Course Facilitation:

  • Maintain a strong pulse on the student academic experience and report student academic concerns to Global Network First Year Programs staff as necessary

  • Connect students to resources at host institution and Northeastern University as needed and follow through with students to ensure success

  • Consult with partner staff to ensure experiential learning opportunities are structured and meet Global First Year Programs goals

  • Collaborate with the Academic Integration and Planning team to develop and facilitate a one-credit course supplementing the student global experience and/or host reflection activities and discussions

Community and Student Development:

  • Co-Develop and implement programs that address students’ personal, intellectual, and cross-cultural growth

  • Co-Develop and implement educational and community engagement activities. Oversee the coordination and facilitation of on-site programs and excursions

  • Responsible for student, community, and program assessment with strategic and innovative approaches to address the findings

  • Develop and maintain an environment conducive to academic success

  • Support students in their transitions, in collaboration with colleges and departments on transition support initiatives

  • Collaborate with site partners, Academic Affairs, and other strategic university partners to plan, develop and deliver pre-departure orientations, on-site orientations, and re-entry programming

  • Assist students and staff in their understanding and appreciation for issues of diversity as they impact the community environment

  • Work to create a warm and welcoming community where members demonstrate concern for those within and without their community and that challenges students to acknowledge and overcome their assumptions in the pursuit of mutual respect for individuals of diverse cultures, life experience, and beliefs

Administrative and Financial:

  • Serve on various working groups and committees to improve future on-site operations.

  • Contribute to content creation and logistical planning of staff training and student pre-departure and on-site orientations

  • Report and collaborate with Global First Year Programs Central Staff on expense projections and spending

  • Complete monthly reconciliation and transactional tracking of operating budget

  • Ensure all financial matters align with Northeastern University’s expectations and are in compliance with Northeastern University fiscal policies

  • Serve as an event coordinator and liaison for Northeastern guests during site visits

  • Attend required weekly meetings as scheduled by the Global Network First Year Programs Central Staff, Student Life, and Academic Affairs

  • Provide required detailed weekly reports and updates to Global First Year Programs Central Staff via one-on-ones with supervisors, Student Life and Academic Affairs.

  • Participate in a final debrief session before the conclusion of the program with Global First Year Programs Central Staff, Student Life and Academic Affairs.

  • Perform other duties as necessary

Student Conduct:

  • Provide direction and support to enforcement of Northeastern University Code of Student Conduct, and local or partner policies and regulations

  • Serve as a conduct hearing officer as needs dictate

  • Facilitate development of an environment that stimulates student responsibility and accountability; supports respect for peers; and creates an environment conducive to comfortable living, studying, and sleeping

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Higher Education, International Education or Student Development. Master’s degree preferred.

  • Minimum 3-4 years of demonstrated student service experience or higher education experience in an academic advising or academic affairs capacity.

  • Experience living, working, or studying abroad- or demonstrated equivalent experiences

  • Experience with Academic Affairs, advising, or related academic support area preferred

  • Experience working closely with high school or undergraduate students

  • Experience with crisis management, mediation, and conflict resolution

  • Flexibility and demonstrated ability to excel in fast-paced environments, navigate ambiguity, and take actions that satisfy diverse interests

  • Demonstrated history of supporting, advocating for, and/or leading DEI initiatives and values

  • Proven ability to coordinate and manage events for large groups with enthusiasm and attention to detail

  • Experience with budget reporting

  • Fluent in English, additional language abilities a bonus

Expected Hiring Range:

$52,820.00 - $74,607.50

With the pay range(s) shown above, the starting salary will depend on several factors, which may include your education, experience, location, knowledge and expertise, and skills as well as a pay comparison to similarly-situated employees already in the role. Salary ranges are reviewed regularly and are subject to change.
