A Day in the Life

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Develops and directs Medtronic research for a product group or service group and/or geographical area to improve current programs and products as well as create ancillary or new products and services.
  • Responsible for clinical trial execution including documentation of product trials, analysis and reporting to prepare documentation required for inclusion in the company's regulatory and legislative product approvals.
  • Responsible for the development of clinical protocols to support the product strategy, data collection and management in compliance with appropriate standard operating procedures, regulatory and medical standards.
  • Plans and manages the identification, collection and evaluation of new product ideas or strategic product extensions to determine their potential to address customer needs and to achieve goals in revenue growth and market share.
  • Leads theoretical and experimental scientific and technological investigations for advancements or new discoveries.

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT EXECUTIVES CAREER STREAM: Business, region, and function heads providing strategic vision and/or tactical / strategic direction across multiple functions or sub-functions. The majority of time is spent overseeing their area of responsibility, directing the responsibilities of employees. Goal achievement is typically accomplished through performance of direct and/or indirect reports.

DIFFERENTIATING FACTORS

Autonomy: Manages a sub-function / function for a sub-region / sub-business unit, or all operations within a country including multiple teams led by Directors and /or Senior Directors.
Provides goals and objectives for a significant function/sub-function or business unit.
Performs work independently, within corporate guidelines.

Organizational Impact: Leads the development and authorization of the short to mid-term strategies for own organization (ie, sub-function / function for a region / business unit, or all operations within a country).
Accountable for achievement of overall results for own organization (ie, sub-function / function for a region / business unit, or all operations within a country).
Management authority to make significant business and strategic decisions including control of planning, staffing, budgeting, managing expense priorities, and approving changes to methods and practices.
Decisions have major long-term impact on the success, failure, profitability and growth of own area of responsibility.
Typically has budget or P&L accountability for the business unit across geographies, divisions, product groups or service groups.

Innovation and Complexity: Problems and issues faced are highly complex, undefined, and require extensive information gathering, analysis and investigation to understand the problem.
Problems typically impact several major job areas, businesses or functions and require in-depth knowledge of the company, competitive environment, technology and economic or social implications of organization activities.
Participates in development of methods, techniques and evaluation criteria.

Communication and Influence: Communicates with parties within and outside of own job function, and typically has responsibilities for communicating with parties external to the organization, which may include customers or vendors.
Requires ability to communicate with senior executive leadership regarding matters of strategic importance to the organization.
Frequently conducts executive strategy and planning sessions with to senior leaders both within and outside of the job function.
Influences across functions and businesses to negotiate and gain cooperation on divergent objectives.

Leadership and Talent Management: Manages a sub-function / function for a region / business unit, or all operations within a country which includes multiple teams led by Directors and Managers.
Determines organizational structure and develops talent strategies.
Authorizes hiring, firing, promotion and reward authority within own area.

Required Knowledge and Experience: Requires specialized business knowledge, general management and leadership capability to lead multiple business or functional teams.
Typically has deep domain expertise in one or more functional areas within the organization, combining theory, past practical experience and the organization’s business practices.
Requires a Baccalaureate degree (or for degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree which satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)( 4)(iii)(A) and minimum 15 years prior relevant experience; with Masters or other advanced degree, minimum 13 years prior relevant experience, minimum of 13 years of managerial experience.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):247,500.00 - 412,500.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

This position is eligible for an annual long-term incentive plan.

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).

 

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to all regular employees: Incentive plans, 401(k) plan plus employer contribution and match, Short-term disability, Paid time off, Paid holidays, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Employee Assistance Program, Non-qualified Retirement Plan Supplement (subject to IRS earning minimums), and Capital Accumulation Plan (available to Vice Presidents and above, or subject to IRS earning minimums).

 

Regular employees are those who are not temporary, such as interns.  Temporary employees are eligible for paid sick time, as required under applicable state law, and the Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Please note some of the above benefits may not apply to workers in Puerto Rico.
