Senior Engineering Manager for User Activation - job 1 of 2

RDQ225R488

At Databricks, we are passionate about enabling data teams to solve the world's toughest problems — from making the next mode of transportation a reality to accelerating the development of medical breakthroughs. We do this by building and running the world's best data and AI infrastructure platform so our customers can use deep data insights to improve their business.

The User Activation team at Databricks is on an ambitious journey to scale our customers 10x. Our mission is to take users from “getting started” to “getting work done” by making Databricks simple and accessible through intuitive, product-led growth strategies.

As the Senior Engineering Manager of the User Activation team, you will play a critical role in driving the technical vision, architecture, and execution for horizontal product experiences that accelerate customer adoption and growth. Sitting at the entry point for all Databricks customers,  you will guide a team of ~20 software engineers to create seamless onboarding flows, intuitive workspace experiences, and partner integrations that power Databricks expansion.

The impact you will have:

  • Define and drive the strategy for customer onboarding, workspace experience, account management, and other horizontal product experiences.
  • Partner closely with product management, design, and other engineering teams to build intuitive, scalable, and extensible solutions that drive product-led growth.
  • Own the roadmap and execution, ensuring all team deliverables are met with high quality and on schedule.
  • Define team best practices for engineering excellence, including design reviews, code quality, testing strategies, and performance optimizations.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with teams developing vertical product experiences (Lakehouse Platform, SQL Warehouse, AI/BI Dashboards) and infrastructure teams to ensure seamless integration and innovation.

What we look for:

  • 15+ years of software engineering experience, with a strong track record of technical leadership and impact.
  • 5+ years of engineering management experience, including managing managers.
  • Experience leading teams of Front End or Full Stack developers.
  • Experience designing and building scalable SaaS platforms, onboarding flows, or customer growth-focused product experiences.
  • Expertise in distributed systems, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), and modern web application architectures.
  • Strong ability to collaborate across product, engineering, and business teams to align technical strategy with company growth objectives.
  • Passion for the data intelligence space.
