J54 is one of seven Cardiovascular Intensive Care Units that specializes in heart and lung transplants, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), LVAD, Impella, coronary artery bypass surgery, and valve repair or replacement. All post-operative patients come directly from the operating room and are recovered, stabilized, weaned and extubated in these units. The units accept complex patients from other facilities that may have had surgical complications or those needing further evaluation for patients that other facilities may not have considered surgical candidates. The patient population is diverse with complex medical problems that may require IABP therapy and/or CRRT.
A caregiver in this position works a day/night rotation of 7:00am – 7:30pm or 7:00pm – 7:30am.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Participate in a residency core curriculum based on individual learning needs.
Provide direct nursing care alongside a success coach.
Establish and/or revise priorities for patient care (acuity of need, patient preference and resource availability).
Respond to data indicating risk to patients’ health and initiate action to correct, reduce or prevent risk.
Seek supervision, consultation and assistance when unable to perform safely and independently.
Document in patients’ medical records.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing
Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
New graduate RN OR less than one year of RN work experience
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) within one year of hire
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Physical Requirements:
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
