Our team is responsible for NDE Engineering supporting of pre-production, current production, and post-production efforts.
The Midwest Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) and Fleet Support team is part of the BDS Engineering department. We are an engineering team supporting space, commercial and defense air vehicles programs such as: 787, 777X, F-15, F-18, AV-8B, T-7A, T-45, MQ-25, KC-46, P-8, B-52, B-1, KC-135, Executive Transport platforms, Commercial Crew Transportation, Space Launch, and weapon systems.
Along with supporting the aforementioned space commercial and defense programs; the team provides supplier standup/certification, fabrication support/trouble-shooting and fleet support activities across the Boeing value stream. The team also conducts NDE research and development for both internal and external customers. Our team is located in three cities: Huntsville, AL; Oklahoma City, OK; and St. Louis, MO. The chosen candidate will support the Oklahoma City, OK location.

Position Responsibilities:
Apply nondestructive evaluation (NDE) methods/approaches, such as acoustic, electromagnetic, thermal, optical and radiologic principles, in developing new and novel methods/approaches to address affordability and supportability objectives
Develop new sensor technology and testing systems for nondestructive evaluation (NDE) applied to manufacturing and support areas
Define requirements for tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes used in the engineering design, manufacture and maintenance of products and approve their use
Lead development of specifications and other documents to manage the deployment of tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes
Maintain compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations
Evaluate emerging technologies for potential application to address business needs
Leads development, validation and qualification of new tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes to meet requirements
Manages test and audit programs to qualify suppliers to applicable requirements
Uses project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements
Incorporates environmental health and safety, LEAN and Quality principles into (1) materials and processes, (2) research, design and qualification, (3) work procedures and (4) labs and office areas
Ensure compliance with industry codes, standards, and customer requirements (ASNT, ASTM, AWS, ASME, ISO, etc.)
Support audits, root cause analyses, and failure investigations as a subject matter expert
Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and technicians
Supports the Team Lead and work statement, assist defining strategies and/or provides consultation
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to travel 10% of the time minimum
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim Pre-start and Final U.S. Secret clearance Post-Start is required.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science. (See level and experience below)
3+ years of experience in engineering
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
5+ years of hands-on experience in NDE/NDT engineering in a regulated industry (e.g., aerospace, defense, energy).
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Physics
Experience with nondestructive evaluation processes (e.g., ultrasonic testing, radiography, eddy current testing, and penetrant inspection)
Experience working in multi-discipline teams, a strong desire to work with technical and non-technical customers.
Strong understanding of materials behavior, stress analysis, and fracture mechanics.
Experience with project management tools
Excellent time management skills to manage several simultaneous projects effectively and across various geographical locations.
Active / Current Secret U.S. Security Clearance preferred but not required
Typical Education/Experience:
(Level 3) Bachelor and typically 5+ years' work experience or a Master and 3+ years’ experience.
(Level 4) Bachelor and typically 9+ years' work experience or a Master and 7+ years’ experience.
(Level 5) Bachelor and typically 14+ years' work experience or a Master and 12+ years’ experience.
