We are seeking a skilled Associate Online Server Engineer who is excited to implement server technology at a global scale in service of amazing experiences for our players. You will help develop new systems and services for our game, coordinating across disciplines with designers and client engineers. The ideal candidate should be excited by the idea of working closely with designers to create compelling and epic features that will keep players engaged for years. 

This role is anticipated to be a hybrid work position, with some work on-site and some work-from-home. The potential home studio for this role is either Albany, NY, or Irvine, CA. 

Responsibilities: 

• Coordinate with client engineers on gameplay simulation and network efficiency.

• Assist in developing, maintaining, and optimizing multiplayer game servers to ensure low latency and smooth player experiences.

• Work with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) to assist in server deployment, scaling, and monitoring.

• Design and deliver code that is robust, extensible, flexible, and simple to use.

• Debug and troubleshoot server performance issues, including lag, packet loss, and connection stability.

• Stay up-to-date with multiplayer gaming trends, tools, and best practices to enhance the online experience.

Minimum Requirements: 

• 2+ years of professional engineering experience with a strong focus on C++ or equivalent work/education experience.

• Familiarity with object-oriented programming principles and design patterns. 

• Knowledge of low-level networking technologies (TCP, UDP) and communication protocols (Protobuf, RPC). 

• Self-motivated with a willingness to develop full stack (from game clients to backend services). 

Bonus Points:

• Experience developing distributed services in cloud environments like GCP or AWS, using containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.

• Comfortable working with SQL and NoSQL databases, including technologies like SQLite, Cassandra, and Redis.

• Solid understanding of security best practices, including encryption and protection against denial-of-service attacks.

• Hands-on experience with Linux development.

• Prior experience shipping and supporting a live, global-scale product.

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $30.05 - $55.59 Hourly. These values reflect the expected base pay range of new hires across all U.S. locations. Ultimately, your specific range and offer will be based on several factors, including relevant experience, performance, and work location. In addition to a competitive base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for incentive compensation. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed.
